We’re exhausted. If they keep pushing us out, we’re going to reach a point where the sheer workload leads to mistakes. In our line of work, mistakes aren’t a joke. Greed and spineless management can cost lives. On top of all the stress, we’re constantly worried about losing our livelihoods.

@OP Agreed. I've only been working for this company for 3 years but i am exhausted, both mentally and physically. Was in the military for 6 years prior to this job but that was a cake walk compared to this. My vacation starts tomorrow on the 16th, i was supposed to be on my rest cycle on the 12th-15th but because they changed the defaults, AGAIN, they called me for a train yesterday evening. Luckily, i had enough points but i had to LOC and now itll take me 5 months (or more) to get those points back. The company is pushing us past our breaking points. I dont know what, but we as Class 1 employees need to do something. We are still human beings with families and lives! (despite what the company thinks)
@11r don’t worry, they won’t recover, but recovering isn’t the goal. Making the company look good on paper so it can be sold is the goal.
Yep I left UP also. Said I’d never Class 1 again. Now with BNSF. It’s a complete joke no foundation, no structure. Safety culture is terrible compared to UP. Management is a bunch of clowns with most of them with less then 12 years on the Railroad.
I’m about to quit these mfs. So incompetent for real. I left the UP because I’ve heard the Santa Fe is better… complete bs. Can’t hold my terminal and now the 2 man crews switching, I hope they never recover from the damage they are creating
@rm up doesn’t railroad anymore 40% of up freight is hauled by genesee and Wyoming short line, up simply collects royalties for other railroads operating in their rail, hence why up is being sued over the trackage rights they just tried to up the cost on BNSF by 3x the current rate in California.
Y'all are about 5 years behind the UPRR and their employees breaking point. Pssst, UP is still railroading...
They don't care. They will keep cutting to keep the shareholders happy until there is nothing left that resembles a functional company. The umbrella of Berkshire Hathaway is the only thing keeping this bloated corpse of a corporation afloat. If this railroad had to stand on it's own two feet, nobody would invest.
Buffet knows that, and that's why he's trying to cut waste. However, there's only so much you can cut before you don't have a company that can deliver a product. Jesus, they've cut mechanical so deep that service interruptions are through the roof. We don't have crews to man trains. Our rail is out of date. Our signals are out of date. It's a sinking ship of mismanagement.
