Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

The end of coders is near!!!

The end of coders probably is coming near. Most coders will probably end up working for AI only.

Programmers bore the brunt of Microsoft’s layoffs in its home state as AI writes up to 30% of its code

Coders were hit hardest among Microsoft’s 2,000-person layoff in its home state of Washington, Bloomberg reports.

Over 40% of the people laid off were in software engineering, making it by far the largest category, Bloomberg found based on state filings. Relatively few sales or marketing positions were affected, Bloomberg added.

To be fair, coders are a big chunk of Microsoft’s workforce, although it doesn’t disclose the exact proportion. The cuts are part of recent layoffs at Microsoft affecting about 6,000 people.

Still, these cuts come after CEO Satya Nadella said last month that up to 30% of the company’s code was now written by AI.

TechCrunch asked Microsoft if the layoffs were motivated by the rise of AI-assisted coding. The tech giant declined to comment. Microsoft has said the layoffs are aimed at reducing management layers.

Layoffs in software have been long in the making. They pushed kids into CS, but so much software had already been built, especially due to open source. What to do with these grads? The tech bo-m required a lot of computers, so they were put into into dev ops, which is basically a sys admin role. Automation again made dev ops less needed. Again what do with so many people? Especially with engineers who are not interested in working on the low-level software required to make data centers more efficient?

AI is used as an excuse for the layoffs in order promote AI.

I guess you fire 2000 software folks and then hire 2000 h1-b visa holders. It is time to fight back. I am one of those 2000 laid offs. I am applying to every tech related job in Microsoft. They will not hire me. I know. Then I am going to sue them for every rejection they sent to me corresponding to every green card sponsoring they did. I have already some. Then the justice department is going to investigate. Get ready

The tech giant declined to comment.

That's because they're not. AI is not working. It is "hallucinating", which is a euphemism for generating random output.
Jobs are moved to India.
Total number of ms employees worldwide is the same.

Why would coders develop a tool, AI, that would take over their own jobs? Sure…sure…I get it. Someone else would develop it if “you” did not but at its core….why would anyone work on and develop something that would put them out of a job if successful.

“Yea!!! We did it guys…AI is 100% successful!!!! WE ROCK!!!!!…….wait?!? what?!?!… what do you mean we are all now fired as there is no use for us anymore!??!?”.

Does this scenario play out in your head?
