really excited to join the company in the summer but can’t help to be paranoid 24/7 over the economy and potential layoffs what are the chances my role gets cut before I’m even there?

If you’re experienced, they might just pick your brain, learn everything, and then let you go to show they’re cutting costs.
Don't become their one-time disposable tool. They don't want you because you're a threat to their position.If you want to stay long-term, learn how to play GF politics.
But if they decide to discard you, you'll have nowhere to go because only all you learn is how to play their GF politic game only.
Take it from a 25 year employee that worked her way up the chain only to get laid off at the slightest downturn.
Take the job but continue looking and get out as soon as another opportunity arises.
GF will use and abuse you.
Just look at the stock price trend since going public, another lie to employees.
Keep in mind that they will use you for their own job security with our TAX
Word of advice. You should plan on changing jobs every few years to find out just what your passion is before you settle in long term at anyplace. So take the job, and even if it only lasts 6 months, that is experience you cant find working anywhere else. And you should be looking for a new job while you have this one. You don't want a resume to look like you can't keep a job, but it should reflect a diverse set of jobs that gives you some broad experience. Find a mentor as well, maybe even move around there...bottom line you have no clue (even if you think you do) what you really want when you grow up.
