Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Has anyone ever actually been fired for not being in office all day?

Does HR not track badge data?

If you don't have a cube, desk, room, or other assigned location at office X - like the nomad you describe, then you're considered remote anyway and your badge-in's don't count as you showing up in your assigned office in the #s. And there are no cameras when it comes to tracking who shows vs not, it's all 100% badge-ins. "Coffee Badging" is tracked not by cams or even IP client location tracking, both of which could easily be done, but it isn't. Those in offices who cut out after 1/2 hour end up ratted out by their own peers, that's how it's become known to upper mgmt not by tracking. Interesting, but true - Yet again, it's people tracking and telling on other people not big-brother systems.

When can I badge into HT’s a-hole?

Most people I know are trying to avoid hellacious commute. So they’ll work at home from 8-9, leave the house around 9/930, work until 3, drive home and work til 6. They get a lot done, generate results, etc, but avoid 80% of the traffic. Silly but it is what it is.

One person I know badges in, but leaves after a couple of hours from a rarely used door, one that doesn’t have a camera apparently. They rarely have camera on zoom calls so nobody really knows where they are. Also they don’t work with anybody in that location…when there, they never sit at assigned desk..just hang in diff conf room and/or phone rooms…very nomadic…doesn’t talk or interact with anybody. He’s invisible.

Even if they did work with some people, it seems the vibe is…people need to do what they have to do. Some have an easy commute, others a terrible one so the ones in office all day general doesn’t cares.

Rumor mill says the reason they just fired a big wig - Senior Director - (and they did) was because he was allowing such "coffee badging" in his office. So it's not even just the peons they watching for that.

Yes, they took a very soft approach initially but we are seeing it happen. Now they are monitoring the people who badge in early and leave immediately. He mentioned it in the last all hands.

Yes, absolutely. We lost two engineers in one day. Just like that. They were not coming into the office. Trust me, this does happen.
