Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How is performance evaluated?

A co-worker seems to be a busy person, always coding but got laid off today, low performance?

We were tasked to use JIRA for all activities all without much direction or a template.
As near as I can tell after 2 months all this does in generate multiple JIRA tickets for the same activity.
Ask me I have changed how I use the system, “No”, I have not.
If management is going to use this as metric I could not care less.

In most cases LL6 and LL5s are not aware or involved in the cut selections. So it’s not clear how it’s determined.

You can work so much but are you generating output? I think it's about contribution and if it is helping your team members, your group, your end users ...

@ac yeah my ll6 seemed completely blindsided that this was happening. found out at the same time as the rest of us with the email.

not sure about jira stats. i’m insanely behind on my jiras and didn’t get cut (yet?) but yeah i don’t think it’s performance based.

Jira and GitHub

How about private slack group convos where they steal intellect from talent then after delivering delete the entire conversation to pretend it didn’t hapoen

I'm not positive, but at least for GSRs, it seems like LL4+ management made the decisions on who to cut without consulting LL6s/direct supervisors. They may have relied on Jira and GitHub metrics to make the call, but those don't always tell the whole story.

@aa+1jv6a6qj7 YOU FU--ING FOOL. HOW DID YOU NOT REALIZE WHAT THEY WERE ASKING YOU TO DO

these cuts weren't based off performance.

location based cuts primarily. i was the only person with experience in a field and was just starting to train people and was cut. so this is setting back the new programs by a solid year at least as people will have to relearn everything.

Badge swipes bro

Nop. I know co-workers who consistently show up between 10 am and 10:30 am and are not at the office 3 days/week at least on a regular basis

@a4+1jv6a6qj7 that’s fu--ing stupid when I’m the only one in the state of Michigan on my team. My leadership is in Canada and the colleagues are in Cali, Brazil, and india. Do I sit alone? And hop on teams?

Badge swipes bro. Are you coming in 3 days a week? Are you coming in early? That's what I'm thinking HR was using.

I’m hearing it was not performance based, and some really sharp engineers got cut.
