Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

Not a fan of people who are not contributing or poor performance. All employees should be held accountable, standards matter. but the system the industry has built around performance management is f*cked up.

it encourages fear-based behavior, promotes politics over impact, & turns teams into “lord of the flies” competitions instead of collaborative environments. it’s not about raising the bar, it’s about forcing people to fight each other to stay above water in a rigged system.

we can expect high performance & still treat people with dignity. what we shouldn’t do is normalize layoffs as some kind of routine culling. that’s not leadership, that’s corporate laziness hiding behind buzzwords.

This layoff had 0% to do with individual performance management. There were whole teams cut, not related to performance at all on the individual level.
