Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

What are the tell-tale signs you were going to get laid off?

For folks that recently got informed they're being let go, what were the tell-tale signs? Curious if management are using new tricks to get rid of local employees.

Several years ago, management suddenly became more distanced leading up to the layoff announcement. They suddenly became more vague with their responses but interested on what we did in fine detail. My entire Boston team was let go and replace with Indian workers.

Tell Tale sign for me was went company went to COE (Center of Excellence) I had a half and half job before . Morning was preparing monthly proofs and audit work. The afternoon was pricing work. There were some days were there were lulls in pricing work, so then to keep busy did what I could on monthly proofs or audit work. But then COE broke apart my job and I became all pricing and no monthly proofs or audits. That work was moved to the Hancock Tower. Pricing was done in the Lafayette Corporate Center. I'm retired now. After I was laid off, I could only obtain 2 contract jobs.

I knew I was getting laid off when my manager punched me in the head and then locked me in a closet. Later, another manager tried to light me on fire. The next day they let me go, but with a fairly nice severance package which was nice.

You're 100% right! But first they will try to force you to quit before laying you off. You can be the best employee but someone clueless above decided it's time to get rid of you while taking credit for your work and contribution.

first thing to consider is when your manager asks you to provide a list of projects you're working on, as if they don't know. And they assign one of your colleagues to work with you.
The other thing is when you're excluded from meetings. And lastly, some of your colleagues begin to distance themselves from you.

Once they start asking for updated procedures or the boss starts ignoring your questions.

"And I know some bosses themselves are not told till the last minute from the higher ups."

This is B.S.
Someone told you that because they wanted you to view them as being in your corner.
They're not.

Bosses know.
Their bosses and those even higher up than them, are given instruction to create a list of those to be considered for layoffs. They all then either fine-tune and/or pare-down the list from there, to end up with the final list of who gets the axe.

No matter what they say to you, your co-workers, or anyone else, they KNEW, and they knew well in advance.
They might be just splitting hairs to try to save face by stating that they didn't know for sure exactly who would be on the final list for layoffs, but they knew very well who was on the chopping block, because they submitted the names for consideration.

It is very hard since some bosses will be honest and tell you upfront.
Others know but will not tell you till the last moment.
And I know some bosses themselves are not told till the last minute from the higher ups.

If your usual series of meetings you have on the regular with your boss, suddenly all get deleted from your calendar...and then just one 1:1 is scheduled by them to meet with you, and it's only for 15 minutes.
