Was the right decision made to have SH take the helm after AW jumped overboard or was this another mistake? Will the ship continue to sink?

Absolutely a good move given that they waited to long to sack AW.
AW's didn't develop any good successors either, as he was bad at hiring anyone who wasn't like him.
So with having to get rid of AW and the cupboard mostly empty of internal candidates, they had to put someone in charge as an interim caretaker while they figure out who should be the next CEO.
So a good tactical move, after several bad strategic ones. But a band-aid at best.
Imagine a US-based healthcare system supported by offshore teams (operations, management, individual contributors) because no one cares more about US health benefits than the people in Ireland, India, and the Phillipines.
2007 Q4 after a earnings miss, ~50 VPs were let go. SH was the CEO.
Hemsley did not leave his position when he was promoted to chairman of the board. He was under investigation by the feds. These men are like a mafi? Family. They just move the family around.
SH was CEO when I started and things were better then. We used offshore labor for admin work, we didn't have DIRECTORS offshore telling onshore people how to do their work when they don't even understand how our health system works. There are so many of us long timers (10+ years) that still truly care about this company. LISTEN TO US!
Hemsley was well respected and no one has had the same level of respect or performance since. There are too many good ole boy groups of leaders who are now embedded throughout the organization. All the good people have either left or been pushed out, especially if they were voices against the changes that have now contributed to the companies issues. It wont get better for a while unless they can quickly remove the wrong leaders and get good people back in VP/SVP roles across the company again.
There's no turning around this ship except on the backs off employees and members. The stock is down 50% in a month. For a company of this size, alarm bells are ringing constantly. Management has driven this into the ground but it could get so much worse.
Not one Manager, Director, AVP, VP reached out to any of us to tell us the news. We found out via the interweb and then nothing there after. A world absent of leadership has a society falling into the abyss.
He’s a stopgap. They will find another new ceo this is just to get witty to go bye bye
I'm wondering if SH was the right choice or if someone new should have been brought on.... or does it just not really matter who is the frontman as that person isn't truly in control of this health behemoth
It was the right decision! Ever since he took over things were going down hill. Layoffs and offshore jobs. That is now how healthy company operates! Uhg used to be such a great company to work for until …. I hope they can pull out!!! So sad to see such destruction take place!!!
see this video, and you will understand.
