Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

multiple WFR coming

As a manager, I can confirm multiple WFR coming. Also confirm directly from JC (CTO) they are removing 2 layers of mgmt, 15:1 ratio by 4/30, 20:1 ratio by end of year. WFR happening now through June, with another round planned for August then October. Managers will either be let go or converted to IC (then eventually let go if they can’t find a new position). Remaining managers are to assess their top talent to carry them into this modernized era. Managers will soon be managing AI bots, not just ppl.

The latest company wide AI training is on Agenetic, so yeah, that's where things are headed, even if not in use yet...

The only way to do this successfully is to use Agentic AI which is largely autonomous. I think. Does anyone have any intel on that? Is that what JC is driving towards?

when are VP and Sr.Dir PdM going to be laid off ? The real culprits for the revenue loss should be held accountable.

I remember being looped into an email thread with JC as far back as 2023. He was already pretty frustrated then, openly asking when we’d start seeing AI actually drive headcount reductions. It was about as blunt and cold as it gets. From what I recall, he didn’t think we were moving fast enough and felt the efficiency gains were way behind where they should be. Not sure if he’s happy with how things turned out, though if he is, he might want to let his face know.

Welcome to the future of working in tech. Selling the evil that will destroy society. Offering solutions that no one asked for that creates way more ethical problems than it solves. Yay!

The catch with AI is they don't buy stuff.

So end game is bankruptcy for all corps.

Late stage capitalism devours itself.

They moved people around in certain ISG groups 2 weeks ago. Dir's/Managers now have 20 people and other managers were demoted. Some have more than 20,

@dv+1jv55xs8v - everyone should have a work to live, not live to work mentality. I'll never understand people who consistently put in 60+ hours a week for peanuts in salary.

The spiral of forever getting more out of personnel will continue. Less and less people dealing with more and more work. Be prepared to evaluate your cut off point. Is it affecting my personal life? Is it affecting my health?

As the years move forward, younger people may realize that they don't want this life. That's probably why a lot of younger people are shying away from giving 200%. Why am I giving all of this for a relatively small amount of compensation.

Agentic AI may offer Dell the path to less people. For people that still have a number of years left in the workforce, Agentic AI is going to be a major problem if it actually works.

If you can, save as much money as you can. I've seen a few people caught off guard thinking 6 or 9 months of salary saved will give them enough time to find a new job. In today's market, it isn't enough salary. It's more like a years worth or more of salary.

My area leaned in very early to the 20:1 spans and layers mandate and my immediate manager is now an IC grade but still informally leading the team, just without the title. What is this smoke and mirrors policy really about, feels like total BS to me.

I've just published an article about the dangers of being just good enough

It’s our own damn fault. Time and again when given the choice we prefer cheap cr-p from China, cheap contractors from India, and now even cheaper code from AI-i-stan.

Good enough is good enough. You should not wait for perfect, you will never achieve it.

Software, which AI is made from, is full of bugs and other anomalies.

Speaking of AI- this is the text of a message I received. If management wants to use AI they have to expect work that is ‘just OK’’ from the bots. It’s kind of long

:::

I've just published an article about the dangers of being just good enough that my perfectionist brain rewrote seven times. Nothing says 'excellence matters' like obsessively editing a piece about the dangers of not editing.

"Adequate Work Is the New Office Plague" is now live on LinkedIn, examining how our rush to AI-powered adequacy is creating a workforce that's just good enough to not get fired, but not skilled enough to truly excel.

If you've ever wondered why Karen from marketing keeps submitting reports that sound suspiciously like they were written by a robot with a thesaurus, or why your new hire can create impressive presentations but can't explain a single slide without reading it verbatim – this one's for you.

I'd be absolutely thrilled if you'd:

Read it (preferably with your human eyes)
React to it (with your human emotions)
Comment on it (using your human thoughts)
Share it (with your human connections)
Print it out, transcribe it in elaborate calligraphy, and gift it to your hairdresser (I've been told they just love decorative workplace think pieces)
The article explores what happens when we skip the painful learning curve and jump straight to "good enough."

I promise it's more entertaining than this email suggests. Or at least, that's what my AI writing assistant assures me.

AI to take over more jobs across all departments, including HR, sales, and engineering.

At the end of the day, sales and profits are down. They have to cut operating costs. And they spin it as “modernizing our business “
