We lost two people from my team to attrition just in April. Another is getting ready to leave, and plenty of us are actively looking. If the job market were better, I honestly think half the team would be gone by now. So can someone please explain why we still need to cut people when so many are already choosing to leave on their own?

Great example!! There was no plan other than getting the cost savings board demanded and CEO committed to. Cuts will continue until they get there and -somehow- keep profits up.
There is still good people in the company however they have opened their eyes and are bailing out…. Just wait until bonuses are paid and you will see a wave of people moving on. I left last year before this whole mess and lost count at how many former colleagues I have talked to and they shared their departure plans.
Executive team wanted a “new Cargill “….. well you are getting it and start packing your bags. Once momentum runs out shareholders will not like the results.
When a 30yr employee is laid off with a full years severance 2 months before planned retirement you know there was no plan.
Between laying off the best leaders for keeping the kiss ups, and smart employees seeing whats really going on and proactively exiting… you basically ended up with the D team who have nowhere to go. So there is no hope for performance improvement and only thing to do is keeping pointing fingers and get rid of even more cost. Too bad cargill family members dont follow this site and try to step in before it keeps getting worse by existing leadership team. There should be a popularity poll for current ceo and his reports to gauge how great they are really doing on leadership and vision. :::rolls eyes:::
It is mainly about money but you also have the opportunity to get rid of useless people. There are lots of them with very high salaries. The people who are leaving now are the better ones. So overall I think the situation will become worse.
Money money money for the execs and family.
