What’s the point of bringing in new hires when we’re all just waiting for the next round of layoffs? Makes zero sense. Feels like we’re just setting people up to fail.

New hire makes $60K. Guy they laid off made $150K.
Those new hires will be replacing the remote sales folks that did not take the relocation offer.
Except Dell is replacing engineers capable of building rockets
Mgmt is responsible for a lot of bad decisions. They’re non technical and don’t care how the sausage is made.
Technical decisions leading to sh---y software are squarely on bad engineers and architects who haven’t written code in 20 years. For example, writing every new thing from scratch to reinvent every wheel in your preferred language without even bothering to research or build on what already exists in open-source or remotely following industry standards. Can’t blame multiple Apex and Sumi failures only on management.
'Any new grad or engineer would be a mo--n to take a job at Dell'
They are not getting 1st and 2nd string. So most, hopefully, are using dell as a stepping stone.
"I am weighing and offer from Dell and Salesforce" said no one ever. Let's not even mention FAANGS
Any new grad or engineer with <5 years experience would be a mo--n to take a job at Dell. Talk about limiting your experience and stunting your career. You’ll learn nothing useful at Dell other than how a sh---y company poorly treats its employees and how to offshore work.
"Eventually you have to replace the person who only knows how to build wagon wheels."
Except Dell is replacing engineers capable of building rockets (it's Dell management that forces them to make wagon wheels) with kids that can barely pull their fingers out of their noses long enough to wipe their own as--s.
Eventually you have to replace the person who only knows how to build wagon wheels.
Younger, cheaper, naïve. Its a grift game by dell.
And these are leftover picks as well.
No youth aspires to work for dell. In no scenario someone is weighing a choice between Dell and a tier 2 or 3 company.
Younger, cheaper poojeets. It's called offshoring. Duh.
Young people have no preconceived notions of the past therefore they won't think any better of what is going on.
New hires are usually college grads who are eager to please and will jump through any hoops that Dell demands. If you get rid of the old timers (30+) then you can redefine the corporate culture.
cheaper, younger...dell is hoper for fresher attitudes.
A newly-hired AE with 5YOE costs around 20% less than an existing one with 10+YOE. Considering Dell doesn't value customer relationship, cost is the only driver.
new hires are 2-3 grades lower and CHEAPER... just saying
OP, meet your replacements.
Replacements, OP.
