Thread regarding Global Payments Inc. layoffs

The constant threat of layoffs has me on edge like never before

These past months brought next-level stress with "stealth" small cuts between bigger rounds. Some are claiming the job market’s fine but that’s not what I’m seeing.

I’m exhausted from the mental weight of it all. There’s no escape though. Just gotta keep working and hope for the best...

Corporate life really knows how to kick you when you’re down!

Job market is not fine! I landed this job last year and it took over 500+ applications to get here. The same can be said by numerous people online. Companies have ghost applications everywhere. No one ever gets called or scheduled for interviews. They’re just collecting data. It su-ks and you have to be willing to be relentless then pray it works out

The job market is not fine. If you have to look, concentrate on networking.

This is my take from the very little that I've heard: There are cuts coming. Sounds like the 19th but that's speculation right now. If I had to guess, I'd say less than 1k total people. They are going after low hanging fruit. If you're on a performance plan then you're out. If you are a low performer you're likely to be on the RIF list. The only "good" news is this time (unlike August), managers are choosing who goes so at least it will be more precise.

I wonder where we can find the RIF sheet?

We help facilitate consumption. Much of it needful, probably most of it wasteful.

If I'm on a RIF sheet, my next work life is going to be for something I feel proud of, even if it means far more modest living

One day at a time. There’s nothing about this company that keeps me around except stability and a paycheck. There’s nothing especially noble in the work, nothing that feels like it leaves the world better than we found it. It’s just a well-oiled machine, and we’re lucky enough to be parts that haven’t been swapped out—yet.

And I don’t say all that to disregard your own feelings, but maybe just to put things in perspective when it comes to getting too attached to this place. It’s okay to care. It’s also okay to protect your peace and remember this isn’t a (loving and non-neurotic) family—it’s a contract. And if that’s all it is, then you get to decide how much of yourself you want to give.
