Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Remember when tech was fun?

Who else got into this work because it was fun to solve technical problems and always learn? Because it was non stop parties and hackathons and startup crawls and conferences with swag? Because the colleagues really were fun to work with?

What the fu-k happened to this company and the industry?

The oligarchs and tech bros decided the workers had too much power and they just want “cheaper” AI to save a buck. Pennywise, pound foolish. It’s going to bite them in the a-s. Innovation and profit and fun are all intertwined.

This is a dystopia we’re living in.

I joined Dell in 1997. Back then, computers were high tech. Not cutting edge, but nowhere near a commodity. But now? They really are just a very complicated commodity. If you search for tech jobs, they are not looking for computer skills, they want modern software, cloud, SaaS. Nothing wrong with working in computers, but it is what it is.

"And here I thought DELL was an innovator in the field of AI as oft repeated by Michael."

In terms of how we fit into the market, we absolutely do. Do you really think we are in competition with Open AI or Google? If so, you should learn what the company, that you work for, actually does.

you got a new generation server and in first year you got 20 urgent BIOS release, what a great deal to be beta tester after wasting thousand of dollars.. this is feedback from customers. MD be a man and honour your customers with quality tested and robust products instead of layoff your labour force.

It's those soul crushing daily scrums. I use a quarter of a point every day for bodily functions.

Literally none of that has ever happened at Dell since at least 1999. That stuff happens at FAANGs not legacy dinosaurs like DT.

Dell is a manufacturing and supply chain company. Not sure why you're working here if you want to be developing new technology. We have never been or claimed to be a software or AI or any new tech company. Do we enable those things, yes, but we have never set out to compete in those markets directly.

Tech is still fun and rewarding. Dell is a company that never left the early 2000s, however.

Dell is not really a tech company either. the fact the leadership came from and lives in cow-town round rock says it all. Not the most forward looking nor sophisticated area

That term (Oligarchs) is thrown around so much and casually that it is meaningless. These people aren't worthy of being included in this grouping. They are just total and complete id--ts and wh--es.
