I got riffed a while back. I struggled to find something, and accepted a slightly lower salary, but the people and the atmosphere MORE than make up for the traumatic environment i was in at Optum. If you can find something (and you’re on this board looking to see who’s next), start looking NOW. Take your PTO and that floating holiday, ensure you’ve got a network of people to give you references, and GTFO. Life is way too short for the struggle that is the Optum workplace.

When leaving Optum, it is 100% true that the grass is greener on the other side. I didn't realize how much of a cr-p company I worked for until laid off after 3 decades. Landed on my feet making more money, better benefits, a lot less stress and much improved "atmosphere". It's so nice now working for a company that truly believes in improving the health and wellbeing of its members
While everyone has their own opinion - I feel Optum is a good place to work. Great people, benefits and work environment in my opinion. They are having to downsize due to federal government reduction in payments and RIF's are not fun for anyone. We have lost good people and it could have been done better - period.
I love my job and the people I work with and all of my family go to our clinics and get great care here.
Throwing out the baby (great patient care) with the bathwater (RIF) is shortsighted...
At Optum, hard work, a-s kissing, and or talent do.not.matter. You are a minion. You can be fired at any time, a week after starting or after 15 years of service. The trauma comes from wondering every single Thursday, if this week is your week.
If you had to say one major thing that was traumatic about Optum, what would it be? I have a chance to work at one locally (Genoa) and I need to know if I am making a huge mistake
