Unity is going EOL , like all the other EOL products you have to leave that product and go on the transition train , for instance with Unity , go to PowerStore or PowerVault , or go to UDS etc etc …

Operating income is a company's profit after deducting operating expenses such as cost of goods sold, wages and depreciation. Operating income = Gross income − Operating expenses. Operating income reflects the profitability of a company's core business. So saying that ISG has a 2x higher operating income than CSG isn't helping your arguement, quite the opposite in fact.

Storage support IS bloated - but that's not the fault of the people doing the work. The C-suite decided to buy Equallogic, then FluidFS, then Compellent, then contract Seagate to make ME, and then bought EMC and decided to EOL everything that came before and start from scratch. But they still have contracts on all that old hardware, so they have to keep people around to keep those platforms from falling apart before their support contracts finally end.

I'm sure that some people will think it's good that they're clearing out the older storage support guys, but there's going to be a lot of institutional knowledge lost - they're getting rid of folks everywhere from the frontline to development, and there isn't the same training and documentation for PowerFlex and PowerStore that there was for some of the other platforms.

I hope they're in a position soon to start using AI to fill some of the gaps, because it's about to get a lot harder to deal with high complexity issues.

“ Yup and it isn't ISG not by a long shot.”

Link for reference:
https://investors.delltechnologies.com/news-releases/news-release-details/dell-technologies-delivers-fourth-quarter-and-full-year-fiscal-2

Halfway down the page you’ll find the ISG vs CSG breakdown.

CSG and ISG produce roughly the same amount of revenue (CSG slightly more).

However ISGs operating income is almost double CSGs.
ISG costs twice as much to run for roughly the same revenue.

This is a business. Those numbers matter.

I’m sorry, but that makes you bloated.

HES is where people go to retire in my region.

Low call volume. Low stress tickets. But also low career prospect. When you’re done trying or wanting to just collect a pay check, that’s where you go.

That’s why everyone has super high tenure there.

“Let me guess, you support Dell laptops and don't know the difference between a $200 notebook and a $2 million storage array.“

Yes I know the difference. I have worked both teams. One of those teams is bloated.

I mean, is anybody surprised the storage teams are getting brunt of this? Dell leadership has been pushing Dell storage (unsuccessfully, ftr) for years and market share hasn't changed in the slightest.
Dell's storage offerings lack innovation and are priced like the bleeding edge tech they wish it was, yet everybody is a shocked Pikachu that it doesn't fly off the shelves.

"....All were older senior resources."

ON GOOD AUTHORITY (I was in the room), part of the strategy is to replace older with younger, seasoned with fresh, biased with unbiased, mid to sr. high-salary with early-career.

This all can't and won't be completed in one quarter, one year, etc.. This is a transformative shift that is quasi ethical but is essential to keeping Dell relevant and competitive. Most importantly, this is only one piece of the seismic shift necessary to better position us for years to come.

We lost three people on a 20 person sales team in Global Alliances. One was in the office, two were remote. All were older senior resources.

Between yesterday and today, I know of at least 8 people who've gone offline after 1x1s and their cases dropped back in the queues. Unity.

ISG is so bloated. Multiple teams doing the same work. L1s/L2s and CIMs all joining the same call for multiple hours at a time.

Never ending log review. This will be a long overdue shake up.

As a manager I can tell you it has nothing to do with your seat in the office.

Wjat if they cut the in person people cause they didn't have enough seats for rto? Plus when ever they announce the move or get out mandate they can get rid of more of us with no severance soon.

“ And CSG L1s are about on par with CSTs when compared to ISG L1s.”

Agree but ELT is fairly well removed from this level. If I didn’t know the different I would be asking this question.

Plenty of sub par ISG L1s out there.

If I had to guess the ELT probably thinks that ISG is over staffed. Our CSG counterparts take twice the amount of cases and calls per staff member.

At the moment, there haven't been any changes in my team. My manager believes we’re safe from layoffs because we’re already understaffed, but I have a funny feeling we might still be affected. If our team does get laid off, it will definitely impact the SLA.

So are they really firing power store in us and hiring in Poland at same time.??

There was about 50 positions.. more over power flex got plenty of power store people in past and now there are talks about sending them back.

Still jobs open
