Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum Tech Offshoring Goals

Some goals this year in my organization is to have 65% of employees be offshore and 35% onshore. On top of that, 30% of employees must be contractors.

Why would they make this part of goals for directors? What do they want me to do to meet those goals? Fire people. God knows I can’t hire anyone with the extremely tight budgets that get never ending cuts.

This isn’t every organization I’m sure but it is in mine.

Also, fundamentally I understand why contractors are preferred because of their flexibility but let’s be honest here, WiPro supplies some of the worst employees I have ever met in my life. They take a year or more to train and by the time the year is up, you lose funding for that project and they are gone. A huge waste of money.

S.D. likes su-kups, and managers from India have much greater experience dealing with that kind of exec, and in "managing up" to please one. So almost inevitably, managers that don't function that way either depart voluntarily or are moved aside.

@ea+1jtgh25k0 There's a huge pattern of Indian nationalism in much of our leadership. If you're not Indian, start looking for work. This is what happens when offshore also manages your company.

The plan is to get to 70/30 in 2026. This will be mostly accomplished by making things so bad in the US that attrition increases which will then enable the company to get to the desired split.

Before you start hating on Indians in general at least they wanted to study computer science. We have become a country of unskilled labor, equity instead of equal opportunity to succeed has produced two generations of adults without STEM skills. But offshoring is just weak management trying to enhance shareholder value by lowering labor costs and making UHG mediocre and probably guilty of violating DOD or State Exchange rules and regulations on staffing! Optum leadership can go to he-l!

Well, even the Indians work in US office are weak, most of these su-kers don’t even have a US degree. There are major Indian consulting companies send tens of thousands to US on H1B visa every year and these motherf----rs eventually stayed here. Eventually the IT industry in US will be 100% owned by Indians.

This directive is why Optum su-ks and why people quiet quit! I call the leadership weak minded woke id--ts because the truth is that Indians are not computer scientists they are vocationally trained and limited in their overall technical knowledge. Of course there are IT professionals but they are the leaders and the warm bodies you get are no bargain! As you know, id--tic yeah?

Optum’s direction is to hire more Indian fobs in India but stop hiring process in US. Many teams don’t have new positions open after people quitting.

Look at how many Indian senior managers up to CTO Sandeep, eventually all jobs go to India.

I am not attempting to be offensive, but I have observed a pattern of Non-Indian VPs, Directors, and managers being terminated under CTO Sandeep. Certain organizational structures are composed almost entirely of Indian individuals, while others include only one or two Non-Indian employees. HOW IS THIS NOT A LAWSUIT.

This has been my understanding as well. Senior Directors and VPs are being approached and handed an offshore to onshore ratio and cost cutting goals and told to meet them by any means necessary. If you can find some cost savings under the hood on cloud spend or operations, you might be in luck. Otherwise, the subtext is that you get to ask your line managers for names and lay people off till the numbers align.

Operational stability? Thats for the client facing applications and TCC to cleanup the mess of. Ive been on too many severity 1s this year where the team is full offshore and either cant fix it or wont join, and the business has lost millions from days of outages. Hows that for cost savings?

Same experience on my end with Wipro as well. If you can get them to even sign in, youre getting complete net negative employees who are worth like one quarter of a TDPer

Where are these decisions of offshoring made? Sr dr, or VP or SVP or CIO or CEO

I do agree that WIPRO supplies one of the worst employees to us. I would rather not have them and babysit than have them. I have worked with almost 10 of them and i don't see any intent to work on them. They are here just to do repetitive tasks and that too with mistakes which takes way beyond reasonable time.
I have talked with my manger multiple times and they do cycle them, but i know what im getting next time again. Like i said, i have worked with around 10 of them at this point, and i know how the 11th is going to be.

That was the rumor last year that UHG was going to only keep 30 percent stateside and they were going to have contracted workers. That means the agency that does the contract is responsible for the employees, including benefits and it also reduces managers and directors . What a bonus. So it looks like that rumor is true.
