Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

This was thoroughly enjoyable

I quit last week, and you should’ve seen my manager’s face. Absolute pikachu-face shock. This, after months of me loudly complaining about being stuck in career purgatory. Suddenly, he’s scrambling with half-baked reasons to stay. Sorry, pal, that ship sailed and sank. The funniest part is they genuinely think we’ll just keep tolerating their "you’re lucky to even have a job" nonsense forever.

Let’s be real, the original post wasn’t about “support” or “moving on.” It was a not-so-subtle flex about blindsiding a manager and basking in the gotcha moment like it was some heroic victory. That’s not support, that’s spite dressed up in self-righteousness.

This board is meant to share real info and offer solidarity - not to cheerlead someone bragging about sticking it to a manager who, let’s face it, was probably just trying to hold the team together during a rough time. There’s a difference between finding a better path and going out of your way to rub it in. Let’s not confuse the two.

Greetings,

Congratulations! It sounds like you have caused a disruption! Maybe you do have what it takes to succeed in the ranks of Cenforce.

Full Stop!

The car crash analogy doesn't really work in this situation because you’re not just watching the drama---you’re creating it. You don’t just observe the conflict, you provoke it. That’s not passive fascination, that’s active involvement. So again: what do you get out of "stirring the pot"?

Wow - it's gotten to the point where to post positive comments supporting someone's decision to move on is making someone on this site loose their mind! Take it down a notch! I'm not necessarily saying, "Congrats for sticking it to the man! The evil Cengage beast must die. " I'm merely say "hey, good for you - hope you're happy now." No judgement. No approving of the way this person quit (because it's not for me to approve or disapprove). And if someone has felt misused by the company and felt some glory in quitting, why should anyone care? You are taking this very, very personally and your anger should be checked.

Same reason people rubberneck at car crashes - it’s a mess, but you can’t look away. Watching the same few people stir the pot with recycled grievances and half-baked theories is weirdly fascinating. It’s not about liking anyone, it’s about watching the drama unfold like a low-budget reality show.

I’m genuinely curious, if you dislike most of the people here, what keeps you coming back to this site? What do you get out of spending time here?

“Congrats” isn’t smug on its own. But when it’s piled onto a dramatic mic-drop story drenched in self-satisfaction, it turns into a group high-five for quitting with flair. It’s not the word, it’s the tone of the whole echo chamber.

And don’t worry, it’s not hate. It’s just allergic reaction to performative martyrdom.

How is "Congrats" self-congratulatory smugness? Please explain in a reasonable manner.

It must be hard, hating everyone all the time.

Oh wow, you quit after loudly complaining for months and your manager didn’t throw a parade? Shocking. The “pikachu-face” was probably just him trying to figure out how you were still there. And let’s not act like flouncing out in a blaze of self-righteous glory is some revolutionary act, it's called quitting a job, not storming the Bastille.

And to the rest of the cheer squad: no one’s downvoting you for being “positive.” They're downvoting because the self-congratulatory smugness is insufferable.

Not sure who's downvoting these positive and supportive comments. Definitely, there are some weird people on this site.

That's very courageous! Did you have any other job lined up? I kind of need the medical insurance right now, so I can't quit until I've got something else lined up.
