I just endured it. I joined 5 years ago. It was my chance to grow. It was right out of college. I did my best to take anything personally, I ate the yelling, bad comments, bad assignments, long hours, weekend work, etc until my skill set grew. I knew there will come a time that it will pay off. Im still green, 5 years experience in the tech side of Citi is not enough. I wore many hats. Devops and programming skills learned here, but I think another year I will be more solid. Be a mid level software engineer. But i did face alot of bad things that when I told my family and friends how I was treated, they said I shouldnt take that and leave that company. I just endured it because I was learning so much in parallel. I been on different teams and departments during my time here. The learning opportunity was worth it, the trauma of what i faced from bad bosses and team mates is not, I broke down during the 5 years. Cried, gained weight from stress eating, anxiety, sleepless nights, you name it. Also during this time, I matured and learned more healthy ways to cope and try to balance out my life. With the experience I have, I can manage through difficult personalities. You can leverage it better when you know what you are doing and or confident with your skillsets. It was very rough for beginners, but I just endured. Im still learning but I will feel better with my skillsets one more year in
Oh man, I could comment on testing but dare not. Wish I could say more.
Culture can be changed but you can’t change people mindset and their personality:-)
There is no way to fixed unless acquisition like twitter, which most people may not like it. For IT jobs, it is much more efficient with AI, the coding time is much less than before, but it doesn’t make much difference if the project itself is just a game.
