Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Be Honest

Why are you still at Intel?

Out of all of the possible companies in the world…why stay at one that has so many problems with no easy or clear solutions?

Just scanning this board, there are complaints about

  • RTO
  • Bad managers
  • Poor facilities and perks
  • Nepotism
  • Lack of confidence in ELT
  • Lack of confidence in the board
  • Uncertain job security with no clear layoff messaging
  • uncompetitive products
  • calls for a strike
  • pay cuts or uncompetitive compensation

Why stay?

Honestly, why do you care? Why would I care what you think? Why would I feel the need to explain it to you? I’d assume you don’t even work for Intel. So perhaps you may want to consider why you are posting here?

I'm still here because Def Met is so good at their job.

I don't believe OP actually cares why anyone works at Intel.

Why are you still at Intel?

  • high pay, low output expected
  • baby needs a new pair of shoes
  • work from home, able to run errands and play video games
  • nobody else would hire me given my past annual performance reviews and PIP plan
  • no high tech jobs open right now, getting ready for the recession in the second half
  • so many over-lapping departments here, if something doesn't get done there are 5 other teams you can blame.

Many are likely staying because they’re on H1B visas or in the middle of the green card process, which makes transferring jobs difficult.

The incompetence of my coworkers make me look like a hero.

It's an easy ride. Putting in maybe 20 to 25 hours a week.

The job made me lazy. Didn't even bother to dress or shower on those days where I worked at home office.

More negatives

Subpar quality engineers
NIH attitude
Bureaucracy layered on bureaucracy
“Can’t do that” attitude
Extremely risk averse
Extremely inefficient processes - like it takes 10 Intel engineers to change a lightbulb
Extreme resistance to change
Merit is not evenly or fairly recognized
Poor incentives (like offering the best and most experienced people to take a package and leave)

Just to name a few.

Because Intel full of id--ts, work with id--ts do not have stress and pressure cause id--ts take months to do a simple task which created WLB. Pay is good for high performer cause due to a lot id--ts it pull down the standard and it is super easy to be high performers.
This is the really honest why I still stay till now.

Because my team is awesome, my manager is great and I like what I do. Could I be making more somewhere else? Yes. Do I want to leave behind what I have right now for a bit more money and the unknown of whether I'm going to be happy there? Absolutely not.

I'm a technician. Pay is 33% more than I would get anywhere else. More time off than I would get anywhere else. Live close to work. Group is well run. Coworkers are good. I perform at a high level and keep adding to skills. I'm under 10 years until retirement. You can be in a good situation at a bad company and a bad situation at a good company.

I joined not knowing much about the industry, and before I even had time to realize my head from my a-s, my career was ruined. The ultimate golden handcuffs for as long as Big Brother deems I’m necessary.

And then…? If I make quick work of finding a plumbers’ apprenticeship, bust my a-s (without showing too much crack), and get lucky, I might able to own my own plumbing company by the ripe age of 55! FUUUCK!

  • I like my job.
  • My job is fulfilling.
  • I like my manager.
  • I'm considered a high-performer in my organization.
  • I like my WLB.
  • I'm less than 10 years to retirement.
  • I would take a massive pay cut for a similar job elsewhere (did my due-diligence during the last layoff cycle).
  • The thought of panel interviews and jumping through hoops for a new job/paycut when I have all of the above sounds awful to me.

I'll keep doing my best until they walk me out. In the meantime, an emergency fund is already in place.

Because it’s easy. As long as I don’t worry about getting fired it’s a great place…. 32 hour work weeks, good benefits

Honestly I would be ok with a pay cut as long as they bring back free Mountain Dew….. I would happily RTO if they bring back free Mountain Dew
