We won’t see just “orderly” rounds of layoffs. Every possible attrition tactic will be on the table for the foreseeable future, including implementing RTO in ways that many employees simply can’t or won’t comply with. A major reorganization, which Intel desperately needs to even have a chance at survival, will take time, and many of our jobs will be at risk in the process. Buckle up. What’s coming will be more stressful and exhausting than anything we've faced in the past few years.

I agree with OP. Amazon has stated that RTO is part of a strategy to cull the employees least connected to their work, who have put WLB above their employment.
Amazon is also joining the other megacap tech companies in reducing middle management, which grew a lot over the past few years, so needed trimming.
Divestitures and product shutdowns will happen and those are not considered layoffs, so no WARN notice. People involved may not get severance packages, or they may be very limited in scope.
Reducing the company to core activities is the kind of workforce reduction which largely happens under the radar. It seems likely that the 20% figure which made it out to the media is accurate, and was a way to give the market the scope of the effort without having to announce anything.
There certainly will be a relatively small layoff in Q2, as the company has stated that will happen, but see if it adds up to 10k.
The other 10k to 20k will come over time, with little notification to the media, or even to employees not directly affected. This is how the company normally handles restructuring.
Intel will fall faster when losing more experts with each VSP.
From this week’s Intel Foundry Direct Connect event, the energy is low from the leaders and they seem to be lost.
They think they can replace the employees with robots and automation. All I can say is look at the 13th and 14th generation chips. One of 2 things happened there. The testing and validation teams were ignored or the “automated” testing and validation su-ks. Good luck with that.
Only the paranoid survive. Or… take control back. Update your resume, LinkedIn etc. Apply to dozens of job openings with a fury. Let Intel BS drive you with an undeniable fire to GTFO! Victims will let bad stuff happen to them. Champions take control and control their destiny. That’s your pep talk for today.
So, who would drive these "attrition tactics"?
The Toxic management layers who are unable to escape and incentivized to do this?
This seems reminiscent of Hi---r's deputies during the Holocaust.
