Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell hiring?

If you were out of work, would you consider Dell?

You have no job, would you apply knowing what you know?

When it gets bad, and it's mostly bad, I ask myself this, and sadly I probably would still apply as I need paid. I would hope I could get a job elsewhere but I think I'd still apply.

If I was younger then yes, work get paid go home. At my current age, I would rather collect disability and live in my car, then go back and work in that environment. The key is go and make as much money as you can doing as little work as you can enjoy your time out of the office build your résumé and then go find a job for a company that cares about their employees.

If you don’t mind poor leadership/management it’s fine
There will be no upward mobility
Lots of were doing great, while the building is burning
Lots of disgruntled workers trying to appease changing goals
Layoffs around every corner
It’s fine

My youngest niece asked me about applying at Dell. She’s graduating from college this year.
I told her honestly that she could learn a lot, both good and bad. I also said, it shouldn’t be her first option.

What’s sad is that her older cousin, also a niece, was hired by EMC seven years ago and rose quickly through the ranks. After three years she was hired away by a large (not Bain) consulting firm.

I was hired at Dell based on my skills and knowledge, while others were advocating for their friends regardless of experience. That’s why I’ll always be grateful to Dell — they recognized my potential and believed in me and they gave me opportunities to grow. It is also a big investment and a huge sacrifice as well because I have to be flexible, and they know they can count on me. Yes sure there are things they could improve, but overall I can deal with it. No company is perfect, and fortunately, many of the poor managers at Dell have already moved on. That said, a word of caution: depending on where you're applying within Dell, be mindful of ongoing changes. The company has gone through a series of layoffs, restructured leadership, and is flattening the organizational hierarchy. I genuinely believe further reductions may be coming in several departments within the next few weeks or months. I’ve also seen new hires at Dell let go just a few weeks after starting because they were at the company during the layoffs season.

A friend always said if he lost his job, he would wait till he got down to his last $20. Go to home depot and buy a rope. He would go home and try to hang himself, if the rope broke, he would apply at Dell.

If you need a job, you need a job. As with any job make sure you immediately find your work/life balance as no company in the world deserves to own you or your life.
