Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Tariffs

How will the tariffs affect stock levels?
Are there many catetgories that wont ship?
Are we cutting orders?
Anyone not disgruntled have a real answer?

Macy's buyer here. Can't speak to all categories, but in my area of women's apparel you'll get as much or more than last year depending on the brand and how well business is going. Tariffs aren't affecting every area the same way because many suppliers got out of China during covid. Also, a lot of vendors are sharing the cost of the tariffs with us so prices aren't going to go up even 10% in my area. I know it's scary to see all the news stories and some companies will take advantage of that to raise prices as much as they can, but we're trying to keep the price changes as small as we can so people can still afford to shop with us.

Bottom line.
Yes...every single person (minus the rich) will feel these tariffs.
Doesnt sound as the ones claiming educate yourself did themselves.
Anything from asia is an added 125% cost.
India just broke a deal with US
Customs Border Patrol will be drowning in inspections.
Fright/Air expected to see shipping delays (30-60days) due to the bottlneck at all
countries CBP.
So do you feel it right now bc stock is filled and xmas sweaters arriving, no the pain comes with orders being put in now.
Buyers wil need to get crafty with product development, and as mentioned, India may be a life boat...
Or
The trade war ends LOL

Why the attacks… seems like a simple enough question. Seems like the poster is trying to educate him/herself.

Tariffs are charged when the product comes IN to the United States. It doesn’t matter if it was ordered a week ago or A year ago. Educate yourself. It will most definitely affect prices of goods and profit. Ask a merchant.

If your so worried about tariffs Amazon's profit margin on junk from China is over 90 percent. If the tariffs are applied they will be at 75 percent profit margin. Kind of sounds like O'l Jeff Bezos can get by with that. Let that sink in.

Again if you've worked retail for any length of time you know fall and winter merchandise was ordered months ago. So the id--ts who are wringing their hands together "Oh my god the tariffs" Hello McFly is there anybody in there(Back to the Future reference) you know when movies were still good. Now you know why you see Christmas merchandise in July geniuses. Hate to be mean but someone has to stop the stupid. Businesses will raise prices because they want to not because they have to. The store brands are basically made in sweatshops, these people are not making tons of money. The markups are insane on this stuff believe me.

Tariffs won't effect current stock levels remember in retail stock is planned and ordered months ahead of time. There are always price markups in the beginning of the year. I ve never seen a season go by without any . With trade deals being done with many countries its hard to say if we will see any bumps in prices other than the usual markups.
