Thread regarding Symbotic layoffs

Symbotic preparing for major restructure of recently acquired Walmart ASR

Late on 5/28, Symbotic sent out an email of WARN in 60-day preparation of layoffs for a major portion of ASR employees. The email content below is truncated from the original:

"Symbotic LLC (the “Company”) has been undertaking an assessment of the Advanced Systems and Robotics (“ASR”) business it acquired and the Company’s approach to integrate the ASR business into the Company. As a result of its thorough, ongoing review, the Company has decided it must permanently restructure ASR by embedding elements of its legacy operations into Symbotic’s regular operations, which will result in the reduction of employees supporting the ASR business. This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the significant impact it will have on our employees and the community.

The reduction will affect the Company’s ASR employees at its facility located at 165 Dascomb Road Andover, MA 01810, as well as employees who work outside of that facility who support the ASR business. The Company is working to finalize its assessment relating to the ASR business and currently expects the first actions will occur during the fourteen-day period beginning June 27, 2025. The employees to be laid off do not have any bumping rights as to other employees. However, some employees may be offered the opportunity to transfer to other positions within the Company. Your official separation from the Company is expected to occur on June 27, 2025 (the “Separation Date”), or during the 14-day period commencing on that date. Please be advised that nothing in this letter alters the at-will nature of your employment and you are expected to continue to adhere to all Company policies and protocols.

All affected severance-eligible employees will be offered separation pay to help facilitate their transition to new employment. Additional information about the timeline and next steps will be shared with impacted individuals before the separation date."

Looks like tomorrow is the day. I hope Walmart enjoys watching their multimillion dollar robotics systems disintegrate.
