Thread regarding SunRun layoffs

Whispers of another RIFF 2025

Been hearing whispers of a RIF coming 2025. I’ve heard permitting and possibly inspections will be hit. Permitting for sure as Sunrun has outsourced most of their permitting work to the Philippines for cheap labor. They’ve also recently taken all of permit techs vehicles and sent them to auction in Visalia. Seems like a desperate cash grab move.

Anyone hear anything? Getting really sick of these Riffs!

Regarding RIFs, Sunrun went through company-wide reductions on June 18th, and I believe there were additional cuts on the 20th? These layoffs are impacting all departments... nobody is being spared. Things will continue to deteriorate if the Big Beautiful Bill passes in the Senate. At this point, I’m just hoping to hang on through the end of the year while I prepare for the worst and passively look for something else.

Can confirm: Sunrun has outsourced a significant portion of its permitting operations to offshore teams in India and the Philippines. I work in a state which seems to be one of the last remaining strongholds still handling a large share of permitting internally. But since late last year, AHJs are being reassigned away from us and the pace is rapidly picking up.

It's only a matter of time before most of the online and email-based permitting is fully transitioned offshore, leading to permanent cuts to our team. It’s devastating to watch something we spent years building through hard work, good relationships, and consistency stripped away. Loyalty means nothing to this company. Team camaraderie is at an all-time low as we fear for our jobs. It doesn’t matter how high-performing you are… no one is safe from layoffs. And of course, with the FITC mess happening, that's added gasoline to this raging fire.

Sunrun is failing and they will do anything to save some money! They have 3 years max before they file for bankruptcy.
