SE Pooling Confirmed

As part of the LRs and Restructuring that is coming as a part of FY26, SEs are going to be pooled. Here are the main reasons this decision has come about.

SE leadership from SEMs, SSEMs, and SEDs, have focused too much on making SEs mini-AMs, instead of making SEs in-depth technically.

The cost of SEs have to come down.

The inability of sales leadership to get AMs to represent / create pipeline in SFDC is another reason for pooling. As a part of the SE pooling, SEs will not engage until there is a specific opportunity in SFDC.

Anyone being pooled with the same job titles who are grade 11-12 and are above midpoint in their pay scale better start looking for jobs outside of Cisco now to be safe. It could take up to 4-6 months to find work. And if you don't know where you are at in your pay scale, your manager is required to tell you, so ask.

On my accounts as the SE I’m the trusted advisor, I’m in the weeds and know what’s going on in my accounts and able to offer specific solutions which increase purchasing and satisfaction as it’s not just transactional.

I know a lot of SE’s do t do this, and won’t. But being in the accounts constantly is the solution. Not coming in just for a sale.

MM doesn’t have the guts to do this.

I got my "Cisco Business Architect" certification about 5 years ago. Customers love my business relevance. TCP/IP stuff is so yesterday.

Sounds great if everyone gets a specialization. Would be weird to have technical SEs again but necessary.

SEDs and Operation SSEMs have done an injustice to the Cisco SE role by trying to make them Business SEs doing the same thing as AMs. Tying pipeline to SEs is stupid. It has not worked in showing the value of the Cisco SE.

The sales cycle is a clown show.

It doesn't matter how many clowns are stuffed in the clown car, or what cringeworthy jokes they try to tell during customer meetings; Bozo would be proud.

The clown car is powered by Cisco License Mangler and DNA appliance.

It's wrong for the SE to 'own the room'
Days of jargon and feature bashing are long gone
Yes the SE is important but this is just as important as having a competent AM that can articulate business value and listen to the customer

I often see SEs champion the silo mentality in Cisco and perhaps place their role above the customers needs

Se these days is just an assistant AM sorting out licensing and TAc problems. It’s long since the SE owned the room like old days. Portfolio too big. Jack of all the trades and the master of none.
