Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Why do people still waste their energy on Dell?

There are so many better options available. You're not doing yourself any favors by staying.

If you can retire soon, perhaps move it up.

I resigned three years ago, retiring a year sooner than I was planning. I check this website out of curiosity every few months and see a common theme. Life is too short to be in misery. Waiting for a package imposes a price on you.

Move on, any way you can. Btw, retirement is great, just be sure to have a few hobbies to keep you engaged in something. I am amazed I got anything done before!

"Why would you leave if you keep getting promoted and paid well?"

“most dell employees are lack ambition. That's why the 10y-20y lifers.”

Ambition means moving around from job to job? Why would you leave if you keep getting promoted and paid well?

I'm 4 years from retirement, just praying the sinking ship that is Dell stays afloat that long.

"One thing I noticed with most of the people working at Dell ... very low ambition"
Since Dell lacks a true meritocracy, your efforts often go unrecognized—sooner or later, you’ll either leave the company or scale back your ambitions and settle.

One thing I noticed with most of the people working at Dell and is confirmed with some of the answers here: very low ambition.

most dell employees are lack ambition. That's why the 10y-20y lifers.

Let me tell you I'm 56 female and it's a sh-t show. Mind you I have been in data centers for 20+ years my skills are antiquated. I've been in presales for 15 years. Every quarter AI, Edge, Cloud never anything I could hang on to... So basically, gd has been. with no prospect's...

It’s simple to leave if you’re in a lower level position. The higher up you go, the more you have invested and the harder it is to get a similar role in another company. They don’t just toss around Director, VP and SVP roles. But they do if your are an I6, I7, I8.

Coffee badging + an easy workload. Lot of old heads in my area I out perform, so no lay off worries means I can comfortably take my naps. Its honestly a great life. As long as AI doesnt decimate engineering in 10 years, Ill retire early. Pay isnt crazy, but itll get ya there

It's funny seeing a lot of of the responses. Dell has a RTO to get people to be more productive and clearly people who are staying are not putting anywhere near the effort they put in before. Good for them do the minimum if they're gonna treat you with the minimum respect.

People keep asking this question and been reposted many times. So, I''' give the same answer...
I just can't get hired anywhere else due to age discrimination and unable to learn new skills fast enough. A only here still because I need money to pay rent and gas for car just to work. That whole circle of life thing.

Honestly the work is easy, my schedule is flexible, and I can move anywhere I need to with my military spouse. Happy to “punch a clock” and make a reliable income while I prioritize my family.

Those who can, leave.
Those who can't, stay.

A lot of times it's those who are in the 10-20y box that have the hardest time leaving. Dell is what they know.
I always thought dell as a place where one winds down their career. It's a near-retirement ride.
