Imagine having to compete for jobs with 20k people at the same time. I'm not planning to walk out with no backup, but I've already started looking for other options. If something even halfway decent shows up, I'm not going to sit around and miss it. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

You are right! The next layoffs will not have the big packages that I had five years ago or the layoffs with a good package last year! Moreover they are not giving early retirement benefits. Those days are over! They want to keep the senior talent! These layoffs will not be voluntary but directed. Good for the company not so much for the employee looking to retire!
Party is over, time to move on guys. No point in losing time anticipating as nothing will improve in the next 5 years at least.
#HRschill don’t you love the HR Schill who keeps posting the “I don’t believe Op” comments.
Former employee here. Keep up hope. I left a year ago. Got an Eng. Tech position at a large well known company. I work in a very small fab/lab. Low stress, better pay, only 3 twelves/week, (26, 12 hour shifts/year less than Intel) and get paid for 40hrs/week. My point is, that there are good jobs out there! It helped that three engineers, I had previously worked with recommended me. You have to network. Go through your Linked-in and look for former colleagues that have moved on to greener pastures. That can be a big help.
The last two years I was at Intel blew! Having the specter of lay-offs constantly hanging over ones head is a poor way to go through life. I decided it was time to move on. Best choice I've made in years.
Best of luck to all!
I don't think OP is serious about anything.
All the naysayers are currently searching for a job and don't want you competing with them in the market.
Because fewer than 20,000 people are searching for every job on the market? Don’t be naive. Check that job market before entering into it. Your odds are far greater staying where you are.
No don’t! Intel employees are black listed. You won’t find another job! Only do it - if you are willing to be out of work for 2-3 years
Why quit right now if maybe you will get severance package, not sure but maybe.
Start to look for another job for sure
Good luck
Why do you need to quit before you start looking for a new job?
OP you are late to the party, all my buddies at not Intel say they’ve been flooded with loser resumes from the crew of the Titanic
The job market right now is absolute sh-t (and has been since 2023). Just be thankful you are employed right now.
You must not have much skin in the game. You're right, you are probably better of selling cars at a used car lot.
