How’s does it actually work for leaders? How much does tenure matter vs what would be the least disruptive to the business? Does tenure save you or being in the right location?

Forced ranking after manager figures out who they need essentially to their own survival. This is company of survivors. It’s not what you know… it’s who you know and how much they like you.
Is your management chain in the chosen club high enough up? If yes more people stay alive. If not your entire group is gone and the work sits for a month till they spin up a team in India or the Philippines. Or the work never gets done so had no value in the first place since nobody cares. Just think back to high school and how the politics worked there for popularity same rules apply now.
Tenure doesn’t matter and I don’t think performance reviews carry much weight. I had 16 years and 4s and 5s on reviews and was payed off. A co worker with 22 years and her last three reviews her overall was 5 - she was layed off. If they’re trying to decide between two in similar positions and need to keep one that might be a factor to help them choose.
there are no rankings
Tenure does not matter. You are ranked against those on your team. They force to fit a curve, so many 3's, 4's, etc. They expect a 2 to mirror the 5 in number. Even in a small team where everyone performs. There will be a 2 or the next level will decide who is the 2. It doesn't matter if the 2 on your team does triple the work of a 3,4, or 5 on another team. Each team, then department will be made to fit the curve.
It’s different in every org. My org starts by me submitting what I think are fair ratings for my employees. Then I send those to my boss BEFORE any reviews start or any peer reviews have occurred.
He then tells me I have too many 5s or not enough 3s and I need to “rebalance”. So I end up dropping some 5s to 4s and some 4s to 3s. The big issue with this is they want each team to fit the curve. Meaning, my lowest performer could be leagues ahead of another low performing teams best employee. My employee gets a 3 and that other teams “high” performer gets a 5. It’s not fair.
Totally agree, it’s pretty disrespectful to use time on a town hall to discuss your vacations while others are being laid off and worried about putting food on the table.
Yes, the bragging about vacations is actually unacceptable!
First criteria how much do you cost. Second criteria are you in the club with management a few levels up since you immediate manager has zero control. If you have been knighted in the club cost or performance does not matter. Usually the more expensive and least competent get to stay if you are a cool kid. Until we meet again........
It's simple actually. If it would su-k for your boss if were not here you won't be laid off.
@at+1jsq33ycr Yep, this company doesn't value domain knowledge or expertise. All it takes is a look at our executives and Mr. 100xAI to know that.
It has to do with performance scores and how much you cost the company. All things being equal, they will dump someone with experience and keep someone cheaper.
Tenure has nothing to do with it. It’s based on skills and metrics from your performance reviews.
I don’t feel bad for higher level leaders getting laid off. You guys make so so so much more than any of us and maybe save your extra money for a safety net instead of all those vacations and bragging rights.
