Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Measuring time in office?

Any truth to employees being tracked for how long they are working on campus network vs VPN?
Working nights or weekends from home (no credit), only credit for onsite work?

I frequently shadow coworkers when they’re updating sharepoint data so I can learn. So my laptop will be offline for an hour. I guess that means I’m not working. And all that “collaborating” takes time too.

@bp+1jspx6e0x - I see the you've never worked in IT or with an MDM solution.

They use the mac addresses of the hotel (and everywhere else) APs to determine your location. Extremely common for over 15 years. Have you seriously never heard of google location services? Google has a massive database of IP-->gps coordinates from data scraping and id--ts who give open permissions to every app on their device.

There's been multiple google maps api leaks over the years allowing anyone to do this if they have your mac address.

I stopped documenting new processes I design to do my work, if I'm pushed to leave without package they'll be up for a nice surprise.

Your cell phone has tracking. Why would a company asset not have it?

Everything you do, every where you are- tracked.

Company asset. When you sign on, it’s pretty clear what to expect.

Since I have 2 work laptops I have been connecting one of them to the VPN from my house before I go into the office. Once in the office I remote in to my laptop at home and do all my work that way. So far no one has said a word to me about it....

"When they remoted in my system the IT present showed me a page where it tracked my location. When I say if tracked my location it showed a Google map screenshot of not just the hotel or area but detailed enough to the exact area my room was in the hotel"

That's not possible with only ip, you would have to have GPS signaling out from your system

Dell forced everyone back into the office thinking it would “boost productivity,” but all they really did was ki-l morale and waste time. Now people are just physically sitting there, not working, watching the clock, and jumping offline by 3 PM anyway. They were getting way more actual output when people worked remote.

Total clown move. It’s like they optimized for appearances instead of results.

I can say for 100% you're system is tracked. I was in a company trip and had to contract IT because I was having issue with the VPN block by the hotel network.

I really doubt it. Do you know much many different situations there are to consider when looking at that information? If that's what they care about, then the whole company is cooked. It literally says in the new guidance that you should work with your leader on your time in office and it sounds like (so far, anyways), they support you forming your day around peak traffic and personal commitments. The less we check and ask questions on, the better off we all are.

It's not relevant or possible to be accurate. I'm in the office for in person meetings most days and rarely turn my system.

'They returned the network tracking tool in Feb of this year due to high overhead'

lol. what a cheap shyte show dell is. the bottom of the barrell.

I am sure exec class bounced around the idea of having managers take midday roll call.

They returned the network tracking tool in Feb of this year due to high overhead. Only aggregating badge scans

Definitely being tracked but whether or not managers care about it is probably going to depend on your specific leadership.
