Empire Building starts Monday

Director and VP level have allready started building empires. IT's a blood bath.

IC TSEs are now reporting to director level (so Director can get their magic 20). Managers convert to IC (News Flash - your going to get the chop). Entire departments are reporting to a different VP, while another VP actually runs that DELL solution.

ITs a mess. Overlap everywhere. IC reporting to Director? Are you kidding me? That's 2 levels.

They told me don't worry you'll still be reporting to the manger who has no people? um what?

Can someone explain this ? Idk -looks like I work in a chicken coop now-

Dell did this at the turn of the century too. I had 5 actual managers at one point. It was such a beat down. I hope they learned from that experience, but I highly doubt it.

dell would be doing this regardless. stop trying to downplay it

remember they sold land and buildings during the covid years while everyone was providing them free office space, internet and electricity

I think we need to give it a chance with an open mind. Maybe ICs need to be stronger and more empowered. If it works it probably is better because then there are less pockets deep in the org adding questionable value. The only drawback is most people will never get to be a leader so it’s demotivating and also it’s unclear how to coach entry level people.

There is no good reason. Bain said you should have this many people reporting to a manager. So that’s what Dell is doing.

Bain say jump and Dell jumps.
