Cisco plans to do what Intel did today

They plan to cut 20% of staff, that brings the revenue per employee to $800k. The long term goal is to achieve $1M revenue per employee.

Things TG is good at:

  • Flexing about his travel schedule while travel budgets slashed for everyone else.
  • Hyping vaporware.
  • Talking over everyone in all hands, including guest customers.

That’s it.

Get rid of that incompetent Tom Gillis to start with.

the seat he is holding down has been a prop in a game of musical chairs for years now

its clear that this is a sock-puppet role that just acts as a proxy messenger for G2

that said, TG is a great example of why companies need to have a "no boomerang employees" (I.e. they worked at Cisco, left for another D list company, then failed back to their hammock at Cisco)

Intel is getting rid of five layers of management.

For Cisco the question is how do you get the remaining five layers of management to suddenly develop actual skills? Cisco has had this problem for decades and most "managers" just watch dashboards which measure what's easy to measure, not what is actually important to insure sustained feature velocity while still delivering quality.

Intel is getting rid of five layers of management. This is what Cisco should be doing as well before it’s too late.

This round of LRs will be targeting GSSO, GVSE and associated supporting CX roles. Book it. Rumblings will start over the next week and obviously at earnings. Hopefully portions of management are hit as well. Would only be right. Enjoy!

Cisco is years away from getting revenue back to its inflation adjusted previous peak and its YoY earnings keep falling Considering the size of these failures and the fact that Splunk came in generating $4B/yr in revenue and $1B/yr in earnings it's likely hiding significant additional losses. Less bodies might provide a short term stock and earnings bump but Cisco will have a subset of failed leaders leading a subset of failed worker bees with the same technical debt eating an even greater percentage of the development budget.

Stop dreaming that some slight of hand will suddenly correct decades of failure and that you'll somehow be rewarded for all that failure.
