Any Hopkinton people recently cut in W1 April on here? Unemployment was denied bc of severance. Anyone else have issues?

You answered the question wrong on the form. When they ask if the severance is for a certain amount of weeks pay you need to say NO. Nothing in the severance packet mentions how it was calculated.

I was able to collect MA Unemployment immediately.
Also, MA DUA has increased number of weeks from 26 to 30 effective week of April 20.

I had that problem when I applied on line then I called and spoke to a person. Just had to send a copy of the agreement and I was collecting. Got 30 weeks and had to keep a log of applying for 3 jobs a week. Make sure you opt into Cobra on you WellDell account. Get a receipt if send your laptop in

In Massachusetts, severance pay is generally considered remuneration if it's part of a regular wage package or if it's NOT tied to a release of claims. However, if severance is offered as part of a separation agreement where the employee releases legal claims against the employer, it may not be considered remuneration and won't affect unemployment benefits. THAT is the problem - You need to fight so that they understand Dell's severence is NOT wages and it WAS a release of claims and liability (I.e YOU WONT SUE DELL). That should be enough for MASS to accept the claim.

Just filed the other day.Waiting on response but did have to fill out comprehensive form detailing severence and prorated bonus. We paid into the system and I should be able to claim. Now they may say you have to wait until the number of weeks (sev /weekly pay) has been depleted before you can start receiving monies but denying seems ridiculous.
