Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Retail has become a sh---y industry to work in

Has anyone had better experiences with other retailers? I'm running out of ideas for where to go if I get let go from Macy's. They all seem equally bad to me right now.

The best retailers to work for are local or small boutiques. I've done both and the pay can be better at smaller stores but less benefits (as in health insurance) but you also feel like you are making a difference by being a part of something. They're all different. But these large retailers truly do not care about their employees or buildings. They are not investing in their current stores and just putting bandaids on open wounds and the employees are over it!

Clothing retail is the worst. consider waiting tables or bartending.
I worked at a small (about 30 tables) bar/grill and made in one night what I made in one week at Macys. The restaurant I worked in was wonderful and the owners were like family. I know people say waiting tables is hard work, but it all depends on the restaurant. I usually had 20 tables a night between 5-11, or I would work the bar side and had my regulars and some walk ins, but on a busy Friday night my tips would be $500.00. Time flew by, and all the customers were very nice, but like I said it all depends on the restaurant you work at.
