I presume they’ll take a heavy bite Into contractor companies in this round of cuts?

See if the contractor base in both products and fab has gone way up over the next year, or about the same.
The trend so far is way up and that is in line with what other companies have done.
The days of those doing semi-skilled work getting the same benefits as those who bring more ambiguous skills is rapidly fading.
Also, it has been said that humanoid robotics are at their iphone moment, where the key technologies to enable them is becoming viable at a cost point that makes them ready for at least industrial adoption.
Not inconceivable that this will be the next leap forward in semi manufacturing technology.
Anyone who is not past the half way point of their career should recognize what is coming and get out of the way.
Do a career pivot to work that won't be replaced by AI/Robots.
it's coming..
@g4+1js Give it 5 years and see how the contractor work is being replaced by AI and humanoid robots.
Already happening in pharmaceuticals, the the cost savings in semis is even greater.
Give it 2 years and finding a blue badge at an Intel site will be a rare thing.
This was going to happen anyway, but LBT will make it happen sooner.
I agree with the consensus here. It makes a lot more business sense to keep a smaller core of employees and supplement headcount with contract workers when the need is there. This is the model FCE is moving to already.
If history repeats itself, the number of GBs will increase. Intel will have GBs doing work that they laid off BBs we're doing previously. Well also likely see targeted hiring on low cost GEOs. We've been through thisany times; Intel will pay off U.S. BBs and expect them to train their low cost geo/GB replacements.
Some of those contractors hired through Tata in India are the worst. Lazy, irresponsible and incompetent.
Fab restructuring to be more like a typical foundry will see most of the people working i the fab become contractors. About the same pay but far less benefits, for what is at best semiskilled work.
Those outside the fab will be consolidated into regional sites and no longer report to an individual fab. Those who are not terminated as part of that consolidation will become contractors, and eventually be replaced by AI.
AI is already replacing many labor-intensive functions in chip and architecture design, and the semi vendors will be bringing AI to most fab tools. That eliminates most of what DefMet does, and other Yield department functions as well.
Contractors do not count as staff and do not get a package.
Nah, definitely more contracts instead of direct employed.
The way of Big Pharma. Better business sense, all this nicey nice soft culture has ruined good business operations.
No. It's the other way round. Fire the blue badges and then see them 3 weeks later as green badges doing the same work for more money. But hey permanent staff is reduced which makes the stock go up.
