Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

no need to create panic

There has been a lot of discussion about layoffs, but I think some people need to focus on doing their jobs instead of creating panic. Personally, I don’t believe layoffs are imminent. The recent price increases will help absorb the tariffs, so we are covered in that aspect. We are still hiring and promoting within various departments. It seems like one or two individuals are making multiple posts and comments here, which is causing unnecessary chaos. Start worrying when we need VPs to sign off on business travel, start worrying when we offer an early retirement package, start worrying when the consumer side pulls from several trade shows. Until then, do your job stop looking for things and stop causing panic your in a small sinking boat of your own.

@a2+1jsga1pak: So, you must be offering two solutions: wave a white flag and surrender or second, ask people to bend dover.

It seems I've struck a nerve with someone here. Sorry, not sorry. I'm not in HR, and I think we all enjoyed a bit too much Kool-Aid during the Academy Awards show. I have no interest in being in management at this company because I understand what comes with that role. Do I like what's happening within the organization? Not at all. Do I believe our leader or management team has our best interests at heart? No, absolutely not. We are all just numbers. I've realized this more than ever in the past two years.
That said, I try to avoid the drama and separate gossip and hearsay from the facts. You won’t survive if you're just waiting for that phone call from HR.

If you are so happy at your job then why do you bother going on this page and replying with anti worker commentary. This would lead everyone to believe that a) you are mgmt b) HR c) a complete loser that loves being treated like sh-t and gives it their all for an ada boy! Don’t worry buddy you will be let go with all the rest of the incompetent workers as you like to call your coworkers! Go find a hole to climb into and stay off this page!

@Too Much Drama: you sound like someone in the C-suite who is trying to play rear guard action because people rightly are concerned about their jobs! Get a clue, please. Your attempt at firefighting is a joke. If you have anything useful to say, then everyone is all eyes and ears. And don't assume it's one or two individuals posting comments. People are fed up and they have every right to call people out. Either come clean or shut your pie hole up. Lame spins don't put food on folk's table or pay the bills, Einstein.

Class dismissed.

This company is toast! I would say to dust off your resumes, but nobody is hiring this sorry sack of third rate rejected employees that CUSA employs. And you all can down vote this all you want but you know it’s true.

Very simply put:

It’s not “if” layoffs happen.

It’s “when” layoffs will happen.

It’s inevitable. As the previous poster said, just look at the financials. If that is too complicated for you to read and understand, just think about Canon’s non evolving core products that have become more and more obsolete every year since the creation of the smartphone back in 2007.

Food for thought.
Canon net income for 2024 down year over year since 2020. While net sales are up year over year, the operating profit and net income are both down. For the printing group which is all office and production is slated to have operating profit 1% above 2021 actuals. So, while sales continue to grow, profit is realistically flat.
You make the educated guess what is next.
As many complain on this forum come with real information. Well, this is real information extracted from the Canon Q1 2025 financial report. You can go to Global.canon/en/ and look at the financials for yourself

To the last post about people not even being able to get interviews… That is probably true. That is also because Canon hires terribly unqualified people that could never work at any other business and that is why the company suffers so greatly. Nobody knows what to do other than listen to the unqualified X patriot leadership sync this company. It’s lose lose all around. There are no winners. All losers.

Many people here think they're much better than they are. I imagine that they cant even get an interview or find another job so they should be counting their almighty blessings for what they have. The alternative is that they completely mess it up before it's too late for them.
