Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Credit cards

I left a few years ago specifically because of the credit expectations. I was expected to strong-arm customers into opening a card with ridiculous interest rates, or I’d get reprimanded. I was done with it.

I’m just curious, after all the changes Macy’s has gone through since then, is that still being pushed as the be-all, end-all for employees?

Interest rate never went up to 45%.

I ask a customer once if they say no I just move on. I see a few of my colleagues whip out the calculator and do the math and tell them how much they'll save on a transaction. When the interest rate went to 45 percent alot of people dropped their cards and never looked back. Bronze is even getting harder to push because people don't want to give out emails. I do the best I can that's all I can do

I hated being on the register soliciting credit applications, hence why I moved to BOH as soon as an opening cleared up. Now that I’m a sales captain, I understand that it’s my responsibility to set credit goals for my teams and coach them to be able to meet said expectations, but I also remember what it’s like to be on the floor. I tell people all they need to do, bare minimum, is ask, promote the benefits, and be honest about the potential drawbacks. The customer will determine what’s best for their self.

Credit is an important part of a store being profitable. The customer makes the choice to open the account or not.

100% correct and it is also not our business worrying about how high the interest rate is. That also is on the customer if they are foolish enough to carry a balance.

I worked at Macy's for more than 30 years. They don't care nor want to know how you open those credits. They are only interested in having them opened and that's never going to change . They love getting their bonus. The bottom line is you ki-l yourself to open them and they get the big money.
