Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Layoff is a blessing in disguise!

I was laid after 12 years of service and I can tell you it has been the blessing I didn’t know I would receive I was away with 12 weeks of pay in a lump sum than after it runs out I can file unemployment and I walk with my hefty stocks and 401k I have more money now than when I was working. I decided not to jump back in the work force just enjoy the freedom of no stress no deadlines no pressure this has improved my mental health tremendously because I was on LinkedIn recruiters are constantly reaching out so their will be a healthcare job for everyone I can assure you of that, just enjoy the peace and freedom that comes along with layoff and stop worrying!

If you are young, you may get a job. Anyone older will have a very very difficult time getting a job. Such is the job market now.

Recruiters are LinkedIn are real my co workers are working multiple assignment jobs from BCBS Humana Hospitals it’s mostly contract work for 12 months are longer but the pay is much higher most are paying over $45 an hour in the south that’s descent wages not sure what state you live in but contract work most times get you to permanent work that’s what’s happening on LinkedIn I don’t know about any other job engines but I know LinkedIn and applying directly to the company has landed a lot of my colleagues jobs and some found jobs at local job fairs in their cities

I’m in a blue state I was laid off, got severance and unemployment nothing was taken from unemployment. you just can’t quit if you quit or agreed to leave on your own accord you don’t get unemployment.

If you are 50+ layoff is no bueno. It is mission impossible to fight the age bias. Also I live in a blue state and if severance is received that amount is deducted from your unemployment account with the state so if you have been around a while you get zero from unemployment

I do not believe valid recruiters are reaching out. The employment market is rough right now.

You were working for 12 years. I imagine you are young. Enjoy the downtime but be sure to plan for your future.

Unfortunately the only heads up I received is from my coworkers I was out on vacation when they laid off most from my group but someone text me to inform me but the others were caught off guard they did give us a two weeks notice to try to post out to another position but everyone knows the process of getting a new position takes months unless you directly know the hiring manager for that position you are applying for! After the initial shock wore off and I cried for the whole two weeks I did see the beauty in it especially my last day we celebrated each other and we still remain close I made some amazing friends in my 12 years of service and so many people will look out for you with finding another job trust me they will hold on to the faith! Some of my colleagues are now in new roles inside and outside the company within a couple of weeks but for me I’m enjoy working out gardening swimming and enjoy my new found peace and freedom!

I can definitely understand how challenging this situation is for everyone involved. It’s tough to see those who have to stay because their states aren’t allowing unemployment for the voluntary departures. The stress is palpable, and it feels like there’s an underlying tension in the office lately. I have a sense that there’s more going on than what’s being communicated. With the current stock issues, it’s natural to wonder what’s coming next. It’s completely understandable to feel anxious about the uncertainty. I appreciate that you’re making an effort to prepare for whatever might happen, but I know that fear of the unknown can be overwhelming. Do they typically hold a meeting to give everyone a heads-up, or would they leave us in the dark about any upcoming changes? That clarity could really help ease some of the worry.
