Thread regarding Lockheed Martin Corp. layoffs

Losing both Navy and Air Force new fighters

Feel like the company had major missteps.
That was about 30 years of work each.

Doesn’t seem like the company is a preferred contractor for major defense awards anymore.

I’m not aware of any other large defense projects on the horizon either.

I’m expecting an announcement of a large layoff that will also affect upper management.

I’m concerned they’re going to try to avoid given 60 day warn notices by laying off less than 50 people every month.

Not sure the government will enforce that rule. Company had an opportunity to really establish work for the next 30 years and they’ve really fumbled the ball. I’m expecting layoff to go deep.

Nothing a little Model Based Engineering can't solve! Or some other bloated, useless methodology.

A little song,
A little dance,
A little seltzer in your pants.

This sounds about right for LM Aero. I remember trying to work with them (I was with M&DS at the time, so this was about 20 years back) to resolve a problem they were having on one of their projects. I got pulled in because I was considered one of the better SMEs when it came to this particular topic and technology.

We had two meetings and by 15 minutes into the first one, it was very clear that if the solution didn’t come from them and their people, then it didn’t count. Well, we’re here because you guys can’t properly solve the issue, so maybe be willing to accept the help. After all, you called us.

5 years later and they still hadn’t solved the issue (I was reading about it in trade mags). All I could do was shake my head because S2 had been using a solution for the exact same problem for years at that point.

Just a crazy level of bureaucracy designed to stifle performance and innovation at that company, not to mention the number of personal fiefdoms that turned some parts of the company into a minefield.

In the end, the taxpayers are the real losers. All of the major aerospace companies are making future generations pay for the current grift.

the upper management and the execs will be hit 100 percent. this comapany was orignally an aircraft miltiary manufacturer after farichild. They f....ed...up.... rellay bad. 6 companies have passed up lockheed interms of delivery...quality....and reputation. the govies aren't dump. they are taking away these contracts. Producing nothing and giving the execs big as...s. bonus for nothing is not acceptable in the 21 century. Bad things coming for lockheed for sure. Failure is not an option. Failure is bad. Execs have failed!

First off, upper management will not be affected, or at worst it will be minimal for them. I personally watched a small team of upper level leadership completely fumble and lose a 2.3 Billion dollar contract that we’d worked our tails off to win. Just absolute mismanagement to the point where the customer was like “you know what? We’re going to cancel the contract with you and see if someone else can do it”, situations. At that dollar amount, such a thing is rare. It’s the only time I’ve seen it, and I’ve been in the industry for decades. It was directly attributed to the antics of those jokers.

What did LM do? Found new homes for them and many got promoted within a year.

This company is horrible at policing its own when it comes to that kind of thing. And a lot of good people tried to warn the leadership of the company about it over the past 6 - 7 years in particular. They got pushed out or “put on the shelf” as a reward.

It’s a shame to see, but Lockheed has become a shell of what the company originally was.

True. We just lost a potential major contract because LH lost it (we would have provided a piece of the puzzle).

What once was...is not anymore.

Looking forward to retirement.
