For most if not all of my time at EMC and Dell I earned more than my managers and directors. The people in Mass. and RR we visibly chuffed when they saw my salary and bonus. No, I did not work in the CA Bay Area.

I thought demotions were not allowed to keep the higher salary? I heard last year if you got demoted from a director/manager position to IC you had to take a pay cut too. Source was someone in TA
What about Marketing? With all the layoffs, it's a very top heavy organization that could stand to get rid of some of those execs
"The problem is they should have just laid off the managers, not demoted them to IC. Most managers won't make good ICs."
We are all aware of that. They were offered an exit strategy instead of leaving the company. As far as I know I believe only 1 person decided to remain with the company for the US.

MD > JC > DS > CQ.
If you work at Dell east to look up.
What is the CQ Org,
I know a few that have been converted to IC. They are still being asked to be team leads, which is BS. Now the company will have too many I10s, so we all know where this is going.
I have worked at a few Fortune 500 companies and have friends at others. None of these companies operate at spans of 20.
Checkout Workday org chart on Monday.. changes in CQ org
Probably not a true demotion unless their job level or pay was docked, but converted to IC for sure.
We had a lot of this in CQ org as well.
What's wrong with being a "quarter of a mill a year IC"?
Several in services too, including a senior director. Nothing NG like being forced to be a quarter mil a yr IC during next round of wfr
I am (was) an ISG leader and wasn’t given the option. Just told I was being laid off.
Was told a month ago I was a top performer and raise/LTI reflected that..
Can confirm at least an ISG RTMS manager is leaving.
i am not sure if we can put the names here, these people have a right to be anonymous too. Some of them won't stay any longer in the company, they feel humiliated.
I'm aware of 4 in Cork that were changed to IC this week. They have to sign a new contract so it sounds like even if there are manager roles opening up in the near future again, they will have to interview for them.
@ OP Name those managers or else this is fake news
Career-wise it might not be bad. Managers at Dell have no authority nor is their input valued by anyone above AVP.
As an IC at least you can keep up with technology and not spend all day writing emails no one will read.
I'm from ISG and just got confirmation of at least one manager which was let go this week.
What part of ISG?
im aware of two in ISG that decided to leave instead of being demoted. yes they would have got the same pay but after working for year to get to a position its a very hard pill to swallow. shows how the higher ups just dont get it.. we need to cut VP level and get rid of people that dont actually get involved with the real work going on...
now do the same to the leadership roaches hiding in the AI org. Sr.dir and VP moved into AI after failing their own products
They need to do the same with directors in this org... even better, show them the door
At least one ISG manager was let go too.
Going from a manager to an IC isn’t a demotion. Especially if you have the same salary. It’s a d-mb move on Dells part.
Nope. They'll do less and get paid the same as a manager. They are loving it. I'm sure it's their pathway to the exit door. Good for them.
not sure about less responsibility...maybe they'll do real work now.
That's not many plus they still have a job on same pay doing less and with less responsibility
Seems like a win to me
