No NK,
It is awful to work here now. Just had an interview with competitor this morning.

Yup, woke up this morning and Cengage still s%#ks, after having put in another week of Kool-Aid force feeding by not-so confident sales execs and their goose-stepping, cheerleading sycophants. We see a through the desperation.
Love how the kool-aid sycophants are on here. Must be nice in your rosy little room where Cengage is enlightened and cares about education and its workers. I really hope you ate ignited.
"While you are meeting with interviewers, make sure to show them you posts here . . . You must be such a good interviewer and so smart!"
Er - this is an anon message board, not a job interview. What a stupid response.
Have never talked negatively about Cengage, even though Cengage currently S—is, but only praised the organization for the opportunity to learn the business and meet great colleagues, but that I do not feel part of future plans post_Horizon and Ignite.
If you go into an interview talking negatively about Cengage, you're seen as a troublemaker.
My advice would be to look at different industries. You may have to move down a little in salary, but in a year, you'll likely be making more than you were at Cengage.
I would never leave one publishing company for another unless it were for a considerable salary increase (40 %+).
Many of the skills the average Cengage editorial person has are so specific that it's about figuring out how best to transition. Maybe talk to some colleagues on LinkedIn who have left for other industries.
You must be one of the smart employees at Cengage who always due their due diligence. I'm sure you've seen the following:
Wiley - New Layoffs March 2025 Including managers and production editors. Those laid off are given 3 days notice. This marks the 3rd straight year of layoffs with no end in sight.
Pearson PLC - Marketing layoffs Happening now! Very nervous! Anyone have insight on this reorg?
Follet - This is Follett Read this on FB and related. “There’s a big difference between a job that is ‘challenging’ and a job that pushes everybody to their breaking point with unrealistic expectations, no support and no recognition”.
Hope all who were terminated or left have found greener pastures. From the happy housewife 💖
Chegg - It can get only worse. Good luck to those affected. The rest of us should already have other options lined up. Chegg for sale!
But you do you and tell everyone else how great they are so their ears can perk some more! Look how stable all these other wonderful publishing companies are. Hope you've turned in your letter of resignation (I'm sure Cengage will be sooo disappointed and the company will come to a complete halt without you) since you've only declined one offer! I can imagine your boss getting your letter - they must be thinking "Thank G-D". Have fun!
Had several interviews, only one offer that I refused in a different industry, and I feel that competitor publishers’ ears perk a little when they hear about cultural disruption and employee fears of losing their jobs. I hope this bodes well for fellow unhappy Cengagers who may get a call from a recruiter.
That's great, good for you. I'm sure no other company has any changes in their cultures and are fully and totally stable. Recommend you have them write up a contract and commit to your job safety for the rest of your life. I'm sure all of them will get on it immediately. https://www.trueup.io/layoffs - oddly, can't find Cengage on this list given how terrible the company is, but good for you in finding a stable company that won't have any culture changes or staff reductions - that's amazing!
Not leaving on a negative note, just letting interviewers know about all the changes of culture and lack of stability. Want to keep good relationships solid.
Greetings,
I understand that Cengage expects the best from its employees, but it is well-known that Cengage Group is the only edtech company recognized as a Best Place to Work in 2024. Glassdoor also identified the company as a Top Place to Work in 2023 and 2019.
Cengage takes employee engagement, morale, and mental health seriously. Every employee is valued and has the power to effect change. We are proud to foster a culture of disruption and encourage employes to ask why and challenge how problems are solved.
Full Stop!
