Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What are the chances of landing another job?

Average coder here, asking for real. The job market is so bad. I feel like the copies of my resume have been falling into a black hole.

Are you an average coder or an Intel average coder?

If you are the former, you will have no problem finding another job.

Being coder helps some…. But no one wants to hire Intel employees just ask the guys from last layoff. The majority of them are still looking for work still

  • Use your coding skills to learn a platform/solution which is widely in demand (e.g. if you're mastering java, then learn salesforce backend. If it's powershell then get an Azure cert and so on )
  • Thinking of sectors which are not affected by the current economic downturn (e.g. data)
  • Introduce yourself not just to hiring managers but to the c-level people who are actually running projects related to your industry
  • Get out and join any events/meetups you find interesting or valuable for your career
  • Ask your network for reference and openings (you can automate this easily)
  • Set up your own business to get some freelance work as a side hustle
  • Find something easy in the meantime so you don't run out of money

OP, if this is a real question for you than this is the last place you should expect to get some good career advice. Who cares what the chances are, you need to work so keep trying and like others have mentioned get some work on the side. Learn new skills if you are unemployed. Playing video games or watching streaming media isn't going to help. Use your time wisely. Your job right now is to find a job.

Shitel needs politics skills more than engineering skills for success and pay increase

Try your best to look for other jobs. Keep trying, it will be good for your future eventually.

Intel’s engineering and technical level is very low, C or D or F level students comparing with industry.

Pay your debts down, stay nimble, keep posting your resume... some day things may turn positive again.

In the meantime, if you get waxed, take on some side hustles like Uber Eats, deliver pizzas and so on.

Unless you’re young enough to still be growing pyubic hair, once Intel pushes you out, say goodbye to the tech industry.

You’ve probably got a better shot to stay in it than non-coders, but as a non-coder, I can probably do 80% of your job with Grok/Claude…and I barely know jack sh1t about writing code. To be clear: I am equally as unemployable as you.

Stuck in the middle where I’m too young to retire and have benefitted substantially from the market bubble, but too old to go back to school. Game. Over.

Focus should probably shift to how to avoid the bottom rung of the UBI scale.
