Uncompensated Overtime and Weekend Work: Grounds for Legal Action to UNH.

More and more teams are being pushed to work weekends to meet unrealistic deadlines, resulting in widespread burnout. Offshore/Onshore holidays are being ignored, and there’s no compensation for overtime—this is unacceptable. Leadership is operating with a top-down, authoritarian approach, showing little to no concern for employee well-being. It’s clear that those in charge are either out of touch or simply don’t care about the people doing the work.

How would this apply for salaried positions? Optum Tech demands nights and weekends even when not on call.

I urge affected employees to file a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor without delay and to thoroughly document all relevant communications, work conditions, and impacts on health or performance. It has become increasingly evident that certain large corporations prioritize profit margins over employee wellbeing, often at the expense of fair labor practices, mental health, and sustainable workloads. When systemic burnout and neglect of employee welfare go unaddressed, it is not only unethical - it may also violate labor standards. Holding organizations accountable through proper legal channels is both necessary and justified.

That’s the direction Optum’s culture is heading. Be aware and consider moving on—it’s unlikely to improve here.

You may need to look for Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Agreed. It has become increasingly evident that many teams are being required to work over weekends in order to meet unrealistic deadlines, leading to widespread exhaustion.
