Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Its official! Layoffs are coming.

With whatever is happening post trump policies, looks like this time it will be big.

partly their own fault but also because they are the first generation expected to retire mostly on 401k rather than a defined pension

At it's peak only 52% of Americans covered by a pension plan around 1970 and my fellow boomers raided those funds. Some decades ago it was reported that social security was responsible for reducing elderly poverty from 50% to 10%. For the young, even if you are in good health weird things start to happen in your 60s and medical costs are already well out of hand.

Gen X is going to rob you of your wealth via taxation to fund their retirement

The last president to get elected with a pro-taxation platform was nearly three decades ago. Only the ultra-stupid think a $36.7B debt is a sign of over taxation, and it wasn't caused by the blue states that paid in more than they took. As for robbing people of their wealth, you missed the transfer of $45T to the top 1% from Q3 1989 to Q4 2024. This doesn't even include over $63T in private sector debt. Just imagine if everyone's income scaled with productivity as it had before 1980 and we lived within our means.

We need tariffs on all out sourced jobs. Minimum $400,000/job.

Make sure you've banked far more than you think you'll need.

you may not need to...Gen X is the most poorly prepared generation when it comes to retirement

partly their own fault but also because they are the first generation expected to retire mostly on 401k rather than a defined pension

the gap will be so huge that someone will get elected to bail them out, its basically inevitable...just a matter of what form it takes

this will be a final "FU" to Millennials...Gen X is going to rob you of your wealth via taxation to fund their retirement

Retiring soon mid-50’s and a LR would be perfect.

Retiring soon mid-50’s and a LR would be perfect. No mortgage, 401k in good shape and kids gone. Until then I do my job and no more, participate in nothing and take the check. Checked out of career several years ago and I DGAF anymore.

Well..yeah, it's about to be Q4 which means FY26 planning, performance reviews, managing out bottom 5%, and then a Focal cycle. There's still a bunch of duplicate Splunk ppl that haven't left yet....Has Liz made her cuts yet? I don't think so. Then the new Sales leader will need to do some cuts too. Plenty of justifiable fat to trim. Tariff-related layoffs seems unlikely, mostly b/c it's not possible to quantify the impact yet. If any layoff is publicly attributed to tariffs, it's simply a convenient scapegoat.

Hopefully, Cisco lays off democrats & DEI departments; that's low hanging fruit to instantly bring back efficiency & productivity. Political affiliation isn't a protected class - except in Washington DC, I think.

a severance check would be a good parting retirement gift for a vacation to Fiji

on Cisco's generosity you might not make it past Cleveland

You can cross your fingers and wish "this post is incorrect and unfounded"....but it will happen. Its the Cisco strategy...

Im down for it. Cars and House are paid off 401K is solid and a severance check would be a good parting retirement gift for a vacation to Fiji. Cisco can go on with their stupidity without me and wont be missed at all at this point. They can go 99.9% AI except for janitors to clean ELT offices for all I care.

It is rare to see a new hire these days throughout the company

Cisco is turning into a gerontocracy. We have team members who are out at least a week per month for medical issues you would associate with someone's grandparents.

We had a very rare new-hire rec available to our group recently...I thought, great, let's get someone under forty to join...nope, a Cisco old timer pulled some strings to get the rec filled with an internal transfer for someone who is pushing sixty. And this was celebrated as some sort of coup.

No different at the top. I used to think CR was on the way out. Now I think he plans to stay until he is ninety, to be found one day slumped over his keyboard.

Everything you do is suddenly micromanaged.

You're being given impossible tasks with unrealistic deadlines.
You're excluded from important meetings.
Your responsibilities are reduced or shifted to less desirable tasks.
Your achievements are ignored or downplayed.
Reasonable requests for time off, training or resources are consistently denied without valid reasons.
Your position or similar roles are being advertised externally.
You're penalised for minor infractions others get away with.

Add couples:
Surveys sent to your peers and customers on your work & sc--wups to nick-pick on you.
You don’t get regular pay increases and your IPF is low to get you a good bonus.

I’m hoping for an ER package this time around.

Cisco over the years methodically LR'ing over 45 aged(at least people around me), so there is no need for ER package..

I heard it will be the largest LR ever - 110%

The extra 10% will be college students overseas who will have their laptops seized in lieu of laptops Cisco might have given them in the future

You might be getting managed out of your job if:

  1. Everything you do is suddenly micromanaged.
  2. You're being given impossible tasks with unrealistic deadlines.
  3. You're excluded from important meetings.
  4. Your responsibilities are reduced or shifted to less desirable tasks.
  5. Your achievements are ignored or downplayed.
  6. Reasonable requests for time off, training or resources are consistently denied without valid reasons.
  7. Your position or similar roles are being advertised externally.
  8. You're penalised for minor infractions others get away with.

business is suffering already. all manufacturing for cisco gear had made in china on it. with tarrifs and trump you can be sure that cisco will not make it alive. laying off people will not fix that. cisco will never bring back manufacturing in the US because its cost prohibitive. the ship is sinking and you better jump before you drown
