Dell Stunted me

After working at Dell Technologies for 8 years and trying to find a more technical roll I have found that my growth has been severely stunted.. what a sh*t show this company has been.. Partly my own fault for staying in this he-l.. But Dell has nothing to offer as far as "good products" or technology.

I w9as a part of a WFR. I immediately thought I would have a new job in a month. Instead I was told that I didn't have enough experience since I spent so long at Dell by multiple recruiters. I tried to assure the recruiters that I kept up with the technical aspects of the IT and Cyber community but they would pass me on and wouldn't send me on to the next round of interviews. It's crazy out here.
Luckily, I didn't quit and I have been successful in securing a new job. Not at the same price point. Be prepared to lose up to $10k annually. Dell isn't respected. I got somewhere when I began to communicate that I am L EMC and could show some sort of proof.
Even with all that said. I am glad I was a part of a WFR. The world is so different outside of Dell. It's refreshing, actually.

Same here. 5 years in. I felt it by the end of the pandemic but settled with hopes of change with the constant org changes. I had a new leader every year….new team every half.

Just take it as a learning experience with hopes of growth within your next role. Wishing you the best.

Excuse me but if we had any real leadership at dell and any kinda of direction instead of pursing a different gd course or path i.e. cloud, AI every quarter, I could have concentrated on one thing instead of the constant Ping-Pong of the quarter. So YES I was stunted.

My relevant skills in finance atrophied at Dell. The relentless offshoring, reorganizations, and terrible shaping of roles and responsibilities took finance roles in a bad direction. When I was interviewing for jobs, I had to lean in hard on my mid-career experience at Dell from like 8 years ago. The recent roles and responsibilities are so disconnected from the market and not compelling at all to recruiters. Newsflash, hassling sales leaders for Salesforce deals to "pull in" for this week is not an essential skill and doesn't add value to any company.

No.

Dell did not stunt you. You did have some agency in terms of deciding where you spent your time and energy. It was your choice to be there.

You either operate effectively towards the things you desire or you don't.

No one is going to do it for you.

We can choose to:

  1. Focus on the pain we experience (end up in a cycle of misery)
  2. Focus on what we have learned (grow and be wiser for it)

My career is at a standstill since I joined Dell

Team is very overstaffed and nothing to do

Awful place to be

I am not aware of any technical bakeries? Maybe look for a role instead of a roll?

Once you leave Dell, you're practically at junior level technical experience of a college graduate. Any other engineering job outside of Dell, HP, etc. are far more technical. Godspeed with your interviews.

that's correct. it's sad it took you 8y to figure that out.
what's makes it even worse is they try to gaslight you into thinking dell is the hawt spot.
dell is a 3 who thinks it's a 9 and have convince some it's a 6
