Let’s be honest, Paychex is not the same company since Jon took over. It’s become soulless, another company that drains the life from you and kicks you out after giving it all you got. Forget the values, forget Paychex proud. The glass elevator is the only thing going places these days.

Small Business Sales laid off reps and are now offering a $3,000 referral bonus to employees to refer reps that are hired. Makes no sense z Something is definitely broken within this company in many departments.

The execs at both companies are snakes. Sadly, you have to be because that’s required to sell your soul. Ask the Paycor peeps about the CEO. There’s a reason the multiple club trips per year were never shuttered to save money. These deplorable use these companies as their playgrounds. They don’t care about you.

How Paychex lays people off for no reason other than lining the stakeholders pockets is absolutely disgusting. Literally no one is safe. So it would be wise, if you can find a better opportunity, leave asap.
Giving AI genersted scripts to managers to read to the people they're firing is top notch disrespect to those like myself who have worked 20+ years witg the company. We are real people with real lives.

(From the perspective of ops side of the house)

Accountability, respect, integrity, partnership. When I started at Paychex, everybody ranted and raved about the Paychex "values" and how great the culture is, it'll keep you here for life. As a young college grad, I brushed it off as your normal corporate jargon -- everybody says it, but nobody believes it. A few months in, I realized this wasn't just corporate speak, the people from the bottom to the top all truly believed in those values and tried to uphold them in every interaction, and I found myself agreeing that the culture truly was one of a kind.

Fast forward a few years, Marty is gone, John is in. We rollout business unit/market units. Not a huge change off the bat, but partnership starts to erode away. It's no longer about "how can I help", but now about "what will you do for me in exchange?". It's not an immediate shift, it takes time to really go downhill, but the shift in mentality has begun.

Then we hit the June layoffs of '24. Everyone is blindsided, somehow the company is short on money so we layoff employees and reduce headcount. We continue adding work with less people, but we have to make it happen to get things back on track. No bonuses or salary increases, overall communication is horrible, everyone starts to get antsy and on edge, accountability starts to go out the window.

Then the fall hits, and we've somehow found $4B to spend on Paycor, guess all those people were laid off so we could afford an acquisition. We take an employee survey but hear none of the results (obviously they were bad). It's the first time that the results of the employee survey aren't released... which should've been seen as a warning sign for the company.

We head into 2025, management starts pushing hard and overworking employees to save $20M on the broadcomm vmware deal, everyone is losing their mind but working hard to make it happen. We are sacrificing our sanity and our lives outside of work for this company, but we keep pushing forward. Now it's Februrary/March, policies are coming out of "turn your cameras on, or else". Reluctantly, nearly all of the ops side of the house starts running with cameras to avoid the return to work excuse that upper management is heading towards. Evidently, the CEO cares more about cameras being on than all of the overworking and sacrifices we are making to save the company money... there goes respect.

And now it's April. Hiring freeze, we've been told Paycor is on the horizon, but Paycor ops side of the house is very small for it's size so will likely be absorbed and extra workload is expected. So what do the chiefs do? More layoffs, more headcount reduction. Once again, ops gets blindsided and now has to do more work with even less. Integrity goes right out the window. Can we expect bonuses or salary increases this summer for all our extra work? Not a chance in he-l. Hire more sales people? Absolutely.

John Gibson is single-handedly destroying this company. There is not one person I have talked to in the last month who isn't on the fence about their careers here at Paychex or actively looking for another job (ranging anywhere from 5 to 25 years of experience). The layoffs of yesterday will pale in comparison to the self-inflicted brain-drain that is about to happen over the coming months. You can acquire as many companies as you want, hire all the sales people in the world, but all of that knowledge and experience to keep our product great is going out the window. Soon, the only ones left will be new hires replacing those that leave the company, but there won't be anyone with experience. Outages will increase, client experience will decrease, clients will start leaving because the quality of our product goes down dramatically, less revenue is generated for the company, so the broadcomm death spiral begins (more acquisitions to make up for lost revenue, more layoffs, rinse and repeat).

If something isn't done soon to correct course, there won't be much of a company left (just a logo to slap on new acquisitions), and there won't be anyone here to keep the lights on. Paychex used to be great company with a fantastic culture... now it's just a shell of it's former self.

Just to make sure this is accurate (and hopefully to see if any higher level corporate people are scanning these sites and have an ounce of compassion for the employees both directly impacted by the layoffs and everyone else left wondering if/when they’ll be next)…we take an employee survey in September, after the first round of layoffs, then don’t hear anything from it at all…THEN, see the emails about a glorious, brand new world and how good it will be. Enter this recent round of layoffs (due to consolidation, head count attrition, new/exciting opportunities, streamlining, corporate speak, etc.) and wonder why employee net promoter scores are in the toilet in addition to overall attitudes being in the basement. No amount of curiousness will change what’s happened. As an employee, nothing is within our circle of influence when it comes to things happening like this. If I’m overstepping, I apologize, but as a group of employees, we are tired, we do not get the communication we should, and we are frustrated with how things are currently being handled. We deserve better.

I’ll get off my soap box. end rant

Sorry, read the question wrong. Yes, one ones that made the cut were in an office.

No, none of the 4 in training were in office. 3 of them were only remote due to their offices recently being closed in May 2024. The other one was remote because their office was closed in 2020 shortly after COVID started.

Half of the training team that I was on, including myself, were let go today (Paychex). All four of us were full time remote, 3 of us due to office closures at the end of May 2024. Over 40 years combined between us gone in the blink of an eye. Quick 5 minute meeting of being read a script and told we'd lose access within the hour.

I did not get that vibe from the company wide email. The immediate cuts are in, just the ones Bain recommended to pay themselves. Lots of other people they need a month to brain drain before tossing aside.

I was let go and one of my employees. They were made aware that they were being let go before me. So my shock when I started getting texts that they were let go only to be told I was let go like 30 minutes later. Cut the team from 5 to 3 with the director going out on LOA starting Monday.

Was given a "your position may be terminated, you have 6 months to prove your worth" on the paychex side. Probably given that due to some big projects.
Lost at least 1 teammate so far, and I know of another person laid off in a close by department.
I'd be looking elsewhere if you're on the paycor side, rumor is a lot of redundant positions will be let go. If you think paychex has someone that fills your role, definitely get ready for the worst.
