Intel: The Cautionary Tale
Intel is a textbook case of how decades of dominance can breed decay:
- Process delays: They used to be ahead of the curve. Then the 10nm disaster happened, and they fell behind TSMC—a company they once dwarfed.
- Complacency: Years of being the undisputed x86 king led to a lack of urgency. They underestimated mobile, Apple's M-series, and even AMD’s Ryzen comeback.
- Culture shift: Engineers used to run Intel. Then came layers of middle management, turf wars, and decisions driven more by short-term KPIs than innovation.
- Talent drain: People started leaving for NVIDIA, AMD, or even startups—places where they felt they could build again.
- Despite being a national strategic asset—especially now with CHIPS Act funding and U.S. efforts to reclaim semiconductor sovereignty—Intel's own execution has been its biggest enemy.
