This has been happening in ACQ and enterprise acq for years. Lots of field directors are now AEs again and they usually stick around a few months till they get a new director job at another company.

How will most former managers actually contribute value and utility to Dell? Dell is one of the most technically gifted companies so it'll be hard for managers to transition.

Thanks for the answers, I genuinely didn’t know!

And our team has been affected by this. Few managers have been demoted to IC and my director’s headcount significantly have grown but not 20 yet. It was like 6 before and now it’s 18 😳

An IC is an individual contributor.
You know, the people who actually produce something and not take credit for the work of others.

IC = individual contributor, non-manager

In Dell the org structure is such: Individual Contributor, Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Senior Director, Vice President, Senior Vice President.

Hope that helps.
