Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Can you make money as a sales rep at Canon?

Three months into 2025 and I am really questioning the ability to make money as a sales rep at Canon USA.

When I took this position I was told that although it is a lower salary, the compensation plan paid those individuals who succeeded.

Both hardware and service pricing is significantly higher when compared to “like” products and service from just 36 months ago.

Quotas are up significantly over the past two years limiting future gate bonuses. My sales YOY have been somewhat flat due to the economy but my earnings are down 20% when compared to Q1 of 2023.

I feel that Canon and those at the highest levels are simply making it tougher for people to earn an income. The Q1 numbers reported at the Q2 kickoff seem like our rep sales journal numbers versus the number senior management needs to bring in are apples compared to oranges.

I feel as if I am a fool if I don’t look for another employer.

Thoughts?

Re: "Pain point for us"

Think you need to calm down and try again at reading comprehension. The topic is asking if Canon sales execs make good money. The "pain point" mentioned is the fact that Canon sales execs are underpaid

“Pain point for us?”

Would love to know what title you hold to make a comment like that.

If we are such a pain point why are we here? Are you hoping we leave so you can eliminate the position?

Rumors are we will be working for a dealership next year. Any truth to that? You have to figure if we are a pain point you will eventually find a way to remove us without having to offer us a package.

Thanks for letting me know my job is valued here at Canon USA.

Depends on what you're selling and the market you're targeting, I guess. Unclear how the organization views a newcomer to the mix. Is the company providing with the tools to succeed? What type of marketing support to help you get into the door? All I can say is be pro-active and leverage what you can do you can succeed. Hope this feedback helps. Very best to you.

Account Execs are very much on the lower side of the scale compared to the rest of the industry and it's a huge pain point for us. Lots of AEs took the package in Q2 in 2024 or jumped ship when they saw what was coming and got jobs that paid much higher base salaries with higher commissions. For a lot of the AE roles, the OTE earnings (salary + commission) are lower than the standard base salary for AEs at competitor companies. Generally OTE earning potential at other companies is $100K higher than Canon on average.
