Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Sick and tired of the uncertainty

I hope this reaches upper people. Little over 20 years ago I started my career and believe it or not I liked my job. Now the stupid way this place is ran most everyone is scared to do anything. Me and the wife 2 weeks ago were thinking about buying us our retirement house but nope let's change stuff up and again and give everyone the feeling that I probably won't have a job once the change up is done. Getting really tired of that worry everyday. I feel I got to many years in just to walk away but to point of finding something with a future. Let me know what you all think of this bs

@ax+1jr5scqwf - thanks. It took being prescribed medication and the therapist telling me what I was seeing, what was happening, and how I was being treated was not normal from a healthy company. My job now is a total 180 for the better. I should have left UP years ago.

Well I didn’t make the cut. I have to say it was a gut punch. I’ve given this company 19 yrs of my life. I worked hard to become a manager, working up through the craft, then finally I get a mangers job in 2020. My numbers were good no injuries either. Yet I get let go during this big shake up. I have seniority to fall back on at least. But yeah the uncertainty the last couple years have been too stressful.

@ar+1 Good for you for having the courage to talk to a therapist about your anxiety. That was a much better reaction than drinking or pills. One would think some humanity would exist with the management at UP and they’d realize the company culture needs to change when therapists, substance abuse, and su----es are the result from the anxiety derived from their decisions and leadership. Prayers for the family of that poor fella driven to su----e bcuz of his managers threats and abuse.

I left after 20+ years as well. Diagnosed with anxiety and was seeing a therapist my last year. UP is a soul su-king, depressing, backwards place. Get out while you can before it affects your health.

Your sentiment is understandable and caused by the way this company is managed. Disgruntled employees and more employees quitting is the result of bad management, then the fantasy of contractors would only end up w/ the contractor becoming wealthy at UP’s expense, but they are too d-mb to realize this. UP leadership doesnt understand the difference between doing a job right and on time and failing 3-4 times before getting the job done incomplete and late after several delays. UP managers just look at it like “we did it”. Not to mention the UP managers who never realize what all went undone while wasting time w/ the mistakes. The outsourcing to shortlines will also end up blowing up in UP’s face. Customers will quickly realize the shortline will just be one more legal hurdle for lawyers and regulators to jump over before getting at the cause of them not getting their property on time, UP. UP is not gonna get or pickup the freight to the shortlines on time. If UP has any involvement in ‘sharing’ the track w/ a shortline the UP managers are not gonna let the shortline out on time. UP operating managers are too stupid and lazy to work efficiently w/ UP’s own company maintenance forces to maintain and fix the track. UP managers saying “15 mins” equates to at least 4 hours. Managers sit in the office comparing tattoos w/ each other or watching tik tok while maintenance forces wait and wait for that train to depart that the crew was barely called for. Imagine how UP managers are going to treat a shortline?

This has been said over and over again. If you're too worried about enjoying your personal life because of what the UP is doing, then you've been there for too long and you need to leave. The UP has been going downhill for several years, with no real end in sight. When the UP started on the path of cost-cutting, they were warned of the consequences of doing so. When I started showing physical symptoms from all of the stress, I left and never looked back. The company executives don't care for it's employees, and the management teams will absolutely lie about anyone for a problem they created. The really sad part is that it's not just the UP that's having this problem. It's the whole industry! It's only going to get worse from here. You asked what we thought of this BS, and I answered. There's no point in working for the UP and tearing yourself up for a company that clearly doesn't care about you!

And that’s why I left the company after 22yrs. But other than that do it buy your home what’s the worst that can happen. You buy the house and have to sell. Life goes on someone will hire you. You have skills. Don’t work for any railroad industry anymore. Bet on yourself not a company. It’s only going to get worse either you will be dead before you retire or not think about it until it happens. Never depend on a company any company to put food on your table. Remember a company is not in business to hire employees it’s in business to make money. God bless

I think Union Pacific is ran by children. Not innocent well meaning children, more like Damien from the omen. Bragging about the marbles they stole from the other kids living at the rent by the hour motel they share with their sister/mom, Dad/grandpa.
