Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Oxy is a good company.

I am so glad l work for Oxy. With the constant announcements of layoffs from different oil companies, aren’t we glad to be working for a very stable company and terrific CEO? This is not some HR troll but someone who has spoken to friends in other companies that admires the stability Oxy offers their employees. What has been your experience?

HR trolls. Heads up HR, you’re leaving very very soon. Better practice your burger flipping no one wants anyone from Oxy’s HR.

@ef+1jqyqhwxc I’ve been at OXY for 10 years. Nobody here is so important that OXY can’t get along without them. OXY will just fine! I’ve seen plenty of “talented “ people leave. Someone else can do their job just fine.

Have any of the older seasoned execs bailed yet. Probably not because Oxy has good execs who actually like what they do so they will stay around. I swear I am not a schmoozer.

If they give VSPs they will lose a lot of talent. At this point in time time they should just do a lay-off based on performance reviews and skills and give a slightly enhanced severance package. Performance reviews are fresh now so it would easy to use these.

OXY generally has offered packages and asked for volunteers to be let go. Who knows if they will do that again but it has been the way they have handled it in the past. I think they would get plenty of takers should they handle it that way.

HR would never stop your office alone without boss being present. They may call you to a conference room and then lay you off and prevent you from going back in. Other advice is to remove all personal information if you have any on your work computer. Do that today because you just never know. Also plan your response to being let go because you want to be professional about your reaction and not make threats or other verbal/written communications that you cannot take back.

Start taking things home starting today. Makes it easier when HR stops in your office with the termination package....

Should be another bad day for the stock before the dust settles. But don’t worry we have WB to bail us out and keep the predators from buying us. If you think your job is safe if the company is sold you are living in fantasy land.

We already know the punchline to this joke, OP. We get it. Keep making the same post again and again and you'll actually believe it.

No petty name calling here. That’s just juvenile.

However, the facts are since 2016, Chevron is up ~46%, Conoco Phillips is up ~43%, and OXY is down ~43%. Something is obviously not right.

If your CEO is nice, ask her to run a petting zoo — not to run a major Oil & Gas company. This is serious business that needs tough decisions.

My experience is that getting caught in a layoff really builds character, confidence, and a thicker skin. You should try it.

Your point of view is consistent with how you have been treated. But what if they decide to lay you off to reduce overhead costs. It could happen and it is just a business decision. Would you still think it is a stable company and the CEO is so nice?
